Inside The Black Triangle is a photo series intending to highlight the struggles, joy, heartbreak, confusion, and diverse experiences of queer women living in a heteronormative world, and the artist behind the project is hosting an Autostraddle Meet-Up at Denver Pride this weekend!
You came to “Sexing the Collage Cherry” and boi are your arms tired.
Aguilar was a pioneer in sharing the faces and experiences of various Latina lesbians in the 90s, when there was very little representation. Aguilar’s art gives the marginalized and subcultures within subcultures — poor, fat, woman, lesbian, Latina — a place to be held and seen.
“Usually the artist is in charge of the perspective, they’re in charge of the way in which we are seen. I wanted it to be a connecting experience, where we kind of give and take and share that experience together.”
Cristy C Road’s intersectional tarot deck, enchanted with resistance, survival and spirituality, is no longer a dream of the future.
In a new art installation, Los Angeles-based photographer Maggie West, who specializes in experimental technicolor lighting and whose work increasingly critiques still-rigid contemporary ideas about gender and sexuality, worked with 40 women subjects — including Stephanie Beatriz, Nikki Hearts, Gaby Dunn, Jazzmyne Robbins, Isis King and more — to do just that.
“There are a lot of butches out there still. More than ever. And in a larger variety than ever. And that is what my project depicts, in style, body, race and gender non-conformity.”
