DADT was repealed! Mostly! Now what?
Did you think it might turn out to have been not real the next day? GUESS WHAT. IT STILL HAPPENED. Also other stuff! Like Tegan and Sara and a new It Gets Better video and an interview with that cast of Skins and SUBWAY FEMINISM.
WE WON A THING
suck it, john mccain
“My breakdown was a result of a cumulative array of stressors but there is no doubt that the composite betrayals felt on Thursday, by elected leaders and gay organizations as well as many who have exploited my name for their marketing purposes have added to the result. I am certain my experience is not an isolated incident within the gay veteran community.”
We haven’t completely given up hope on a DADT repeal this year, and if there’s any grace in the world we’ll be rewarded for that with the new bill being pushed through Congress before the end of the year.
Today the Senate failed to pass DADT, thanks to senators like Scott Brown and John McCain, and more specifically failed tens of thousands of gay and lesbian servicemembers.
Your recap of the Prop 8 hearing is here! It took a while to get to you but that’s because Charles Cooper’s ears are just too weird, that and his terrible legal arguments kept throwing us off. Anyhow let’s talk about the future of gay marriage in California!

Harry Reid compares McCain to Lucy from Peanuts. Jon Stewart rips McCain a new one. An actual Marine who served openly for 4 years comes forward to say a repeal “will work.” But above all, for a ‘lousy student’ and ‘misogynist’ who used nepotism to get into the army and, once there, was not quite the hero he says he was — McCain sure claims to know a lot about unit morale.

The endless onslaught of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell posts may actually come to an end in the near future, as the policy will hopefully be decided once and for all this week. We have the details, as well as some thoughts on how we got here and where we go next.
Remember when Del City High School students Kelsey Hicks and Melissa McKenzie said they were being discouraged from graduating because they’re gay? Yeah, that story isn’t really adding up.
A UN General Assembly Committee just voted to stop including sexual orientation on a list that protects people against discrimination-based arbitrary executions. In other international news: two Brazilian troops arrested in connection with gay shooting, couples get married in the air, Australia tracks its own gay-friendliness and in France gay marriage goes to the courts.
The original Prop 8 case wasn’t televised, but the hearing on whether or not Prop 8 should ultimately be repealed will be.
Can the Democrats really manage to end DADT in Congress while they still have a majority? We hope so, because otherwise it’s back to the drawing board.
Forget prom — lesbians at Del City High School are being told they shouldn’t even bother showing up to graduation.
