Sunday Funday Is Thinking About Mommi

Hey y’all! Happy Sunday and [insert whatever emotion fits you best here] Mother’s day! Also, no matter how you feel about this day, we’ve got two great shirts for you and/or the Mommi in your life at the Autostraddle merch store, and I bet you want them both.

This week has been pretty dang good for me! I finished all the coursework for my masters’ degree! I’m basically a master of theatre right now, AMA (please, do not)! I hope you also had a pretty dang good week, are getting some good vitamin D, and have gotten to flirt with at least one cute girl. Okay, here we go! To quote Fantasia, “This goes out to all my baby mamas!”

Everyone Who’s Kicking Ass This Week

Pakistan recently passed an amazing transgender rights law.

Members of parliament voted to pass the wide-ranging Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act in the capital, Islamabad, on Tuesday.

The law accords citizens the right to self-identify as male, female or a blend of both genders, and to have that identity registered on all official documents, including National Identification Cards, passports, driver’s licenses and education certificates.

The law guarantees citizens the right to express their gender as they wish, and to a gender identity that is defined as “a person’s innermost and individual sense of self as male, female or a blend of both, or neither; that can correspond or not to the sex assigned at birth”.

Teddy Geiger walked the red carpet for the first time since she came out as trans and she looks so good! ?

Autostraddle staff writer Mey Rude wrote about trans motherhood for them.

From the pine trees to the riverbed, I curse you. I curse you prejudice, I curse you self-hate, I curse you society with your cisnormativity and need for nuclear families. May the raven peck at you and the snake bite your ankle. May the drought reach you first and forever. From the pine trees to the riverbed, I curse you.

I’m a witch and I’m a woman and I will be a mother. My children will be adopted and that doesn’t make them any less mine or any less magical. When I search for the truth, this is what I see.

Cara Delevingne talks about what coming out as genderfluid did for her.

Nancy Drew’s got a queer gal best friend!

If you like gaming and Pride, this set of pins is for you.

Out and proud bisexual Cardi B raps a sick verse about kissing girls on this new song featuring some straight girls!

And lesbian Jesus Hayley Kiyoko had something to say about it:

My friends, I hope your week goes amazingly, and MAYYYYBE I MIGHT SEE YOU!!!!! (because A-Camp X starts in 3 days!!!! Are you packed? I’m not packed! I get back into Austin tomorrow at 9 am and then fly out to California for camp at 1 pm! I still need to pack at least 3 more pairs of underwear and probably 10 more shirts and an iron and at LEAST two more dresses? I’m gonna stop.)

Happy Sunday!

  1. George having a girlfriend is <3 <3 <3
Thank you for this important knowledge!

  2. I have been saying George is gay since before I knew what gay was & now my whole existence has been validated.

  3. Oh my, Mey’s article about wanting to be a mama. Being a parent is what I always wanted to be. And this is my second mother’s day as a foster mama but not a forever mama. And it’s my birthday. So many feelings.

  4. Just one question: why doesn’t George’s gal-pal have any pupils? It’s kind of creeping me out

  5. OMG. George is finally out! Yay Nancy Drew.

Other fictional characters that I hope will follow her example:

    Velma on Scooby Doo
    Anne of Green Gables
    Trixie Belden
    Jo March

  6. Wait did the autostraddle article about Rita Ora/Cardi B’s song get taken down?

    • Yeah I think it did. Not really surprising as it kind of read like an endorsement of the song and AS realized it wasn’t the kind of thing they wanted to endorse. I haven’t listened to it but I agree with most people’s thoughts, it seems like it’s just trying to cash in at the expense of our community.

      • Although it made me go and buy Hayley Kiyoko’s album so there is that ?

  7. I remember when Teddy Geiger was on the cover of Seventeen and they had it captioned something like, “WHY HE’S THE FIRST GUY WORTHY OF COVERING SEVENTEEN”… WELL, looks like “he” wasn’t! Beautiful.
