Everyone has their passion, and sometimes that passion doesn’t fully make sense to another person. For example, currently, writing about the same movie for 30 days straight is mine. My neighbors? Playing the same six chords on his guitar for hours at a time.

  1. I’m 2 days late to the party but Erin, thank you. 30 days of Carol is the most breathtaking, the most generous of gifts

I wish you strength in the face of your guitar neighbour adversity

  2. Totally lost it at the “on what grounds? On. What. Grounds” part. This 30 days of Carol is pretty much everything to me right now.

  3. My tenant teaches violin – I empathize deeply.

“I’m wide awake! I’ve never been more awake in my life! Why don’t you leave me alone!”

  4. Today is the day with Three French Hens,Two turtle doves And a Partridge in a pear tree?

  5. sometimes it feels like he is composing the score to “Carol Vs. Harge: Requiem,” but just the Harge scenes, and in surround sound

  6. Could this be the new Polari? Dropping a sentence into conversation as the queer woman’s secret handshake?

  7. Hark, Erin from Autostraddle does write,
About that lesbian Carol for 30 nights,
Peace on Earth and mercy mild,
As the fanbase goes hog wild

  8. I may have told this story on here before because I feel like I tell it to everyone, but oh well!

I once had a neighbor who sang only Chris Cornell’s parts of “Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog for what felt like and very well may have been weeks. This wasn’t even in the 90s when it would have made sense. It was like 5 or 6 years ago. I once tried singing the Eddie Vedder parts along with him to let him know I could hear him, but he either didn’t hear me or it actually encouraged him because he did not stop.

I wish I had had Carol quotes to get me through that harrowing experience, but alas, those were the dark times before the 2015 Oscar Nominated Film Carol existed.

    • That is an awesome response strategy, but I’m not surprised he didn’t stop. I bet his Temple of the Dog cover band was way more successful after you helped him rehearse the duet :D

  9. “I don’t know if it’s right, but it’s legal.”

    :’D

I had a roommate that this also applied to. You wouldn’t think someone could possibly sing as badly as that guy. We started to wonder if he was just doing it on purpose to see how many of his open mic nights we’d politely attend.

  10. I think you’re well on your way to making an entire *career* out of writing about Carol and I am impressed.
