In the middle of the Minnesota Lynx’s 85-62 win over the Phoenix Mercury in the Western Conference Finals opener, Diana Taurasi and out athlete Seimone Augustus started, what I like to call, “brickwalling” each other. Such altercations aren’t rare, especially when the players have been facing off in high intensity games for over a decade. In-game tiffs go both ways all the time. Either things become more and more physical until refs need to get involved or there is some small gesture of friendship, sportsmanship, or goofiness that immediately eases the tension while acknowledging the competitive spirit of those involved. Never have I seen it be as hilarious as this. If you’re familiar with Diana Taurasi’s persona, it’s no surprise she’s pulled off this stunt in such a funny way. And had it not been a player she’s friends with, maybe it wouldn’t have gone over at all.

Props to the ref who gave each player a personal foul, effectively deescalating an uncertain situation right away. After the game, Augustus noted that Taurasi has always “…wanted some of my deliciousness” and Taurasi insists they “…were just trying to make sweet love.” This might be the best argument for you all to watch the WNBA that there’s ever been.

The only reason I will say I am a Minnesotan is because the Lynx are our best sports team! Love going to games!
The perfect foul :)
Aggressive female athletes kissing on the court?…Annnnnd the Lynx just won a new fan.
This is what my WNBA dreams are made of.
This should be the goal of every NBA game: To at some point kiss your rivals.
So I need to amend my “not caring about sports” stance and get on this WMBA thing haha
I haven’t been this interested in the WNBA since after I heard about Brittany Griner.
WNBA is really pulling out all the stops to try and convince me to watch sports
I NEED TO GO TO A GAME
SO MANY WNBA FEELS.
This was my first WNBA game. Also first basketball game. I had almost no idea what was going on except I definitely knew we were winning and that I had a crush on seimone.
And then shit got tense…and “personals” were being called against these two. But then it got *actually* personal when this happened AND IT WAS AWESOME and all the lesbians (also other fans) collectively cheered and the lynx continued to kick ass and I found my sporting home.
I am going to start watching basketball. Women’s basketball, at least. Clearly I have been missing something sticking to just NFL football.
this is also what i wish would’ve happened at high school games.
Now you all know why I am UConn women’s basketball fan. There have been so many great women who have come from the Husky program but the coolest may be Diana.
Too cool, Diana.
