Pop Culture Fix: Clea DuVall and Kristen Stewart’s Christmas Rom-Com “Happiest Season” Drops Its First Promo Pic

A Monday Pop Culture Fix upon you, friends!

+ Happiest Season, Clea Duvall’s forthcoming queer Christmas movie starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis (and Aubrey Plaza and Mary Steenburgen), released its first promo pic for Pride and it sure is gayyyyy.

+ The BET Awards aired (virtually) last night on BET andCBS. For the queers: Lizzo won Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Lena Waithe’s Queen & Slim won Best Movie (read Jehan on Queen & Slim if you haven’t already).

+ Michelle Obama presented Beyoncé with the Humanitarian Award. In her speech, Beyoncé urged fans to vote like our lives depend on it and to continue to dismantle a racist and unjust system.

+ Speaking of Beyoncé:

+ Syfy has pulled the plug on Vagrant Queen.

+ BET has renewed Twenties.

+ Harley Quinn’s animated series (which I’ll be posting about this afternoon!) is making its way from DC Universe to HBO Max.

+ Supergirl‘s Nicole Maines is a Golden Girls stan (just another thing she and I have in common!).

+ Jordan Calhoun over at The Atlantic: Saying Goodbye to Law & Order.

My relationship to policing has a “before” and an “after.” My “before” involved episodes of Disney’s Bonkers, elementary-school D.A.R.E. visits, and pointing at the beautiful German shepherds from police K-9 units throughout the city and asking if I could pet them. My “after” was thankfully less tragic than what could have been, less a singular event than a gradual education and personal hardening in my teens as I was pulled over by the police almost monthly.

  1. I am so sad about Vagrant Queen being cancelled, it was such a charming, cute show with a BIPOC queer lead! They even did a “Clue” episode, and the easter eggs in the episodes were spot on. I’m not sure why it didn’t catch on like other queer-ish SyFy shows, it was just so good.
