Another hellish month in 2020 comes to a close, and I canβt help but reflect on how much can shift in just 4 weeks; how we question, grapple with and finally accept the truth of things, the truth of choice. I believe that choice is inextricable from the quality of love our lives were infused with or denied. Some of us were blessed with the strength of unconditional love. Some of us were not. Some of us got a combo that further confused us. Some of us were taught to perceive conditional, predatory, obsessive, co-dependent, extractive, performative love as the way to liberation. Some of us have lived long enough, and experienced enough, to outgrow and heal those particular conditions and now know better. I can identify these conditions in others and know better now. There are a few people who have always made me feel loved & held in healthy, grounded & unconditionally loving ways. My Abue, my TiΜa Irma and my sister Carla are at the top of that list. In pic 2 Iβm the baby, pic 1 & 3 I was 15 (Yes, it was 1990. Calm yourselves about my outfits and overall aesthetic. Or – you know – donβt. ;)) & meeting Carlaβs beautiful soul for the first time. Also in these pictures is my Mexican grandma, who I called, and call, Abue. May she Rest in Power. MariΜa De La Luz Flores- Abue – was a strong, smart, tender, complex, woman boss with a lot of ancestral, intergenerational trauma and an even bigger heart. My Mexican TiΜa Irma (who I wish I had pics of), in my experience of her, modeled what it looks like to love, protect and center the emotional/mental health and needs of your children above all else. My Abue & my TiΜa Irma were the women who, in different ways, made me feel safe no matter what childhood storms of trauma swirled all around me. My sister Carla, to this day, loves me unconditionally & shows it gracefully over time. Feeling gratitude for these women in my life. Gracias. Thank you. The strength & tenderness in your unwavering love & support plays no small role in my ability to own this fact today: My right to be loved, safely held, and to self determine the pace at which my life unfolds is, and will remain, indisputable. Blessings to all. Peace.

I love throwbacks! Throwback photos are the best.
SEE! Look how cute lil Kate is?
Rahne is working this hat and I say thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
One of my favorite things about being an adult is that no one can stop me from plastering literally every surface my home in this image!
It’s the jacket for me!
Just casual towel serving, no big.
*sweating* What was that? I..didn’t hear you…for reasons?

Yeah. So. That photo of Melissa King. Who I had not even known about. It is not helping my work day concentration. At all.
Excellent progression from mask to hat to kids to jacket to towels to jackets to bathing suit. Oof.

MELISSA KING AND I HAVE THE SAME CHAIR, i think, my grandma won it in a radio jingle contest in the fifties, and mine is not as restored as that one (my dog gnawed a little on the arms as a pup), but WHOA
Oooh QG, that means that in a very close parallel universe Melissa King is sitting right in your home. Smooshing you pupper’s ears. Now there’s a thought.
Sara Ramirez just busted my heart wide open.
