Instead of preparing for doom, I can’t help myself from planning for the utmost beauty and enjoyment, for pleasure and laughter, for sharing stories and connections, regardless of whatever else is happening. Here are the near-future plans I’m inviting you to invest in with me on Autostraddle, during this final stretch of our fundraiser!
You ALL came together to get us to $100,000 and we believe you can get us to $50,000 more. 79% of the donations that made $100,000 possible were $50 or less! We mean it when we say that this is an effort of everyone coming together and donating what they can to make a huge difference. Together, you and we are powerful. We can make change happen. Let’s never forget that.
In a time when digital resources and connection are more vital than ever — including workplaces that employ LGBTQ people sustainably — Autostraddle wants to not only keep our lights on, but ensure they’ll keep burning as brightly as possible.
To honor and to uplift everyone who contributes so that Autostraddle can still be here, we are hosting a merch giveaway today, March 16th!
Yesterday’s Advice-a-Thon was beautiful!!! A+ Members got advice on friendship, family, dating, peoples’ jobs and work, gay weddings, just navigating queer life — we are receiving word from our correspondents that one reader even told her girlfriend she loved her after getting advice about it!
When BLK first published, it was a 16 page black-and-white newsletter with a circulation of roughly 5,000. By the time it ended its publication it had grown into a 40 page magazine with full color covers, a paid subscriber base and global distribution reaching 37,000 people. It told our stories. Today, we say thanks.
On Tuesday, Grindr-backed LGBT publication “Into” initiated, without warning, mass layoffs, effectively shuttering the site in … wait for it… A PIVOT TO VIDEO.
Get that lesbian vampire space opera out of your head and onto the interwebs!
