Sunday Funday is High Off The Highwomen

Good morning! I am writing this with a cup of coffee while continuously looking over my shoulder because, drumroll please, it is cool enough in the very early mornings to just open my windows/doors! I am thrilled, also Alexei (my cat son) would absolutely make a break for it if the screen door presented him with even the slightest opportunity (Anya prefers strolls on the roof 🙃).

The fall is on her way! Get your PSLs and long scarves and flannels and apple recipes ready, because it’s time to shine, while being cozy. Here’s some news.

Having an “X” gender marker has helped me realize that most people don’t look at the gender marker when they’re checking ID. For the first couple of months, I expected to get questions from people checking my ID, but I haven’t gotten any. I went through airport security dozens of times last year and didn’t have the gender marker questioned once. So I’m not sure whether people understand what it means. (My friends were, of course, very excited when I showed them my changed ID soon after I got it!)

    • Cause they’re crafting a visual mythos of a rural and/or working class Americana that varies in theme from rebellion in some form to straight up jingoist pap.
      I don’t have the empirical data, but music videos of female country musicians tend to skew towards the rebellion and defiance side.
      Red Neck Woman lyrically is about defiance of cultural expectations of femininity and class norms, visually it supports this with AVT mudding and the women in the audience drinking and having a good rowdy time instead of being a nice quiet civilizing influence to the menfolk.

      Anytime women are having a good rowdy time is a kind of defiance.
