Shadowbanning, content moderation, and censorship disproportionately impact sex workers, according to a new report from sex worker collective Hacking//Hustling. With the EARN IT Act, growing anti-encryption legislation, and open-source defunding, the collective has a series of recommendations summarized at Salty, while the full report is available at Hacking//Hustling:

“We’re calling for social media and financial technology platforms to:

1. Make internal content moderation practices public.
2. Give users more choice in what they see.
3. Hire sex workers to conduct compentency trainings for staff.
4. Open your wallet and share this report with colleagues.

We’re calling for policymakers to:

1. Listen to sex workers when they warn about the potential impact of policies.
2. Stop the state from determining what safety means for communities by stoking fear and spreading misinformation.
3. Challenge the framing that sex workers and survivors are two discrete communities.
4. Fight against legislation that increases liability for platforms and does nothing to stop violence.
5. Advocate for the decriminalization, decarceration, and destigmatization of sex work.”

Friend of the pod Chingy Nea discussed how to clean sex toys at Mel, including how to de-smell anal toys:

“Exorcising the dreaded booty stank from your ass toys is much more of an art form than an exact science, but I’ll tell you one thing: It’s helpful to give it a second wash (again, mild soap and water is king). I also have anal-loving peers who like to coat their toys in coconut oil for about an hour before rinsing them again — they say it helps with the smell — but I’ve found that the aforementioned dick boil is one of the best solutions. If that’s not feasible, letting the anal intruder air out for day or so does wonders, too.”

Everyone ignores the pelvic floor:

“When will ‘WAP’ for a healthy pelvic floor emerge? Maybe when there are enough struggling pelvic floors that a generous rap icon sees it as her sworn duty to give them their anthem. Pagliano and other physical therapists report that pelvic-floor problems are on the rise. There could be many reasons for this; habits that weaken the pelvic floor — like stilted breathing, bad posture, and a furiously pumping sympathetic nervous system — also happen to be related to stress.”

Dylan Ryan and T.Pfister

It’s totally normal if your mind wanders during sex. First of all, you have to be naked with a whole other person, and they’re probably naked, too. There’s also anxiety about the past, anxiety about the future, mental health stuff, and other factors. But that doesn’t mean that focusing during sex is impossible:

“Luckily, there are several solutions. From slowing things down and talking more to eliminating the expectation of a cum shot at the end, anxieties around sex can be overcome. According to Manian, when we feel ourselves drifting away, the first thing to do is ‘bring awareness to sensations in the body. Take a deep breath and notice what you smell, the texture of your partner’s skin, how they taste when you lick and kiss them,’ he advises. You could take this even further and experiment with sensory play — there’s nothing like an ice cube on your nipple to snap you back into the present.”
