Brittani’s Video Party: Janelle Monae’s Lips Are All Over Her Hacker Girlfriend

Greetings. This is Brittani’s Video Party, where I bring some of the “best” videos from all over my internet together so we can clap, cry or deconstruct. Have you ever gotten to a video and it already has 33 million views and you wonder where the heck have you been? Well I’m here to help you so that you see it when it only has 32 million views. Aim low, world. Aim low.

Hacker Girlfriend is a new webseries from Stevie Boebi (of the SassiBob YouTube channel) that tells a scripted stort though the trademark vlogging style. The series promises plenty of gamer lingo, Doctor Who references, and the latest in Android technology. It’s directed by the one and only Sarah Croce.

This ad is supposed to be touching but I just thought it was kind of funny. I can’t say anything else because it will ruin the surprise. It’s worth 40 seconds of your life though. And if you watch it and disagree, I guess it’ll be too late to do anything about it at that point. Except maybe complain in the comments.

Janelle Monáe has a new video for Dance Apocalyptic and it’s basically girls fawning over her the entire time. This is clearly some sort of fantasy of hers (and could be a reality if she were queer but WHAT DO I KNOW). Anyway, she makes some kissing motions at women in the crowd and dances around a lot. Everyone is saying she’s loosening up because she let her hair down and is wearing white so maybe that’s a sign of being more comfortable with herself and coming to terms with some things. Just as that sentence was a sign of me being willing to reach.

Lips Season 2 has started airing episodes. The series is about two lady rockers that refuse to give up on their Hollywood dreams of money, fame, and an endless supply of women. The first one features Christine Lakin of Step by Step and future episodes promises multiple appearances by Sheetal Sheth of I Can’t Think Straight.

If you have a video you think everyone should see, tweet it to @bishilarious for consideration. And of course feel free to post your favorite videos from the week below.

Brittani Nichols is a Los Angeles based comedy person. When she's not tweeting about white people or watching television, she's probably eating pizza. Actually, she's probably doing all three of those things concurrently and when she's not doing THAT, she's sleeping. Brittani also went to Yale and feels weird about mentioning it but wants you to know.

  1. i know that the titles for this column are always amalgamations but i was really holding out hope that this one was a true fact. alas. janelle’s video is still fabulous though!

  2. Janelle Monáe swamped by hot girls is everything that is good and true in this world.

  3. – the visual nod to the “hey ya” video
    – DEFINITE hot queerness in the crowd (i see you, hipster glasses)
    – i felt janet, i felt the who, i felt dave grohl
    – and maybe myself a little

  4. Um, Hacker Girlfriend is so good. Can’t wait for the next episode.

    Also, omg Janelle Monae.

    • Yeah! I think I spotted a subtle arrested development reference in there too, which makes it that much better

  5. Janelle Monae is forever in my ‘please be queer’ column. That video did not help.

    • ME TOO, ME TOO!

I can’t even like, omg, all the lisa frank folders, just, all the gay things, Shane, I’m done and about to pass out for all the wishing!

Janelle Monae gives me all the feels on this subject.

      I’m done, feels.

      Feels. I tried.

  6. Inexplicably, the Janelle Monae video made me feel exactly like when I hooked up with a first year at a Smith house party during my senior year.

  7. I dunno, I thought Hacker’s Girlfriend was painful with all the 4th-wall breaking and juvenile narrative declarations. Also didn’t realize that there were two different brunettes. Awkward.

  8. Yeah, I too forgot that the titles of these articles are just combined references to the videos within said article, so I thought, OMG, Janelle Monae is gay and has a super nerdy techy girlfriend, what a way to come out, now I can finally start calling her Janelle Sogae like I’ve been dying to for forever, etc. etc.

  9. Fandroids, does anyone else think the Electric Lady may be another alter-ego, a la Cyndi Mayweather? She was referenced in Q. U. E. E. N. too. I’m really excited to see where this goes!

    • I just love that she puts the effort into making concept albums. It’s like a little opera. Can’t wait for the next instalment!

  10. Weird, being surrounded by hot women in button-ups smashing guitars is MY fantasy too, Janelle!!!

I prefer androids to zombies, but I trust Ms. Monae and would follow her to the end of the earth.

  11. Huh, I thought it was a truth that Janelle is queer. “Am I freak because I love watching Mary?” anyone?
