Maia has a Masters in Education, a Masters in History, and is nearly finished with a PhD in History of the African Diaspora. She has lived in lots of extreme places, and traveled to 34 countries around the world. Maia has done everything from working shitty jobs in retail, to being a DJ on the radio, working in non-profits, teaching meditation classes, being a high school teacher in an at-risk community, and a freelance medical researcher, to being a musician and artist and plant hoarder… but in her heart of hearts, she will always be a writer. And no disease – even one that causes brain damage – is ever going to take that away from her. Also, she is just damn grateful to be alive.
