Dearest music, I adore you. No matter how far I travel, no matter where I am on this earth, you never cease to amaze me. Now? You send me 3 fairly impressive kids from Northern Ireland who have a fresh uptempo sound that makes my heart skip-a-beat. Only one album (and one EP) into their career, Two Door Cinema Club have perfected their blend of indie pop and alt-rock music. Records laced with uptempo drums, electronica and synth sounds, afro-beat influences mixed with dance rock tendencies and catchy melodies make it easy to fall for these kids and their sound. A chip off the old Phoenix | Vampire Weekend | Franz Ferdinand block, TDCC are making quality rock music that makes you want to dance. Hard to pull off.
Consisting of Sam Halliday on lead guitar and backing vocal, Alex Trimble doing vocals/rhythm guitar/beats/synths and Kevin Baird on bass/backing vocals, Two Door Cinema Club came into existence when 2 of the kids paths crossed in grammar school. After messing around on MySpace and building a small but dedicated following, TDCC released their first EP Four Words to Stand On and signed to French record label Kitsuné Music shortly after. From there, it’s been hit after hit after hit… with songs like “I Can Talk“, “Something Good Can Work“, and “What You Know” being pretty amazing, with interesting videos to match. Checkout their first album, Tourist History; that should hold you over while they finish up their next album. Enjoy.
