Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli Welcome Baby Girl George Into the World!

Our Autostraddle team is dedicated to such intense vigilance and constant scrutiny of Instagram that no celebrity can come out without one of our writers or editors having guessed it was going to happen months in advance. (“She started wearing only short-sleeve button-ups and stopped using gendered pronouns to describe her partner four months ago, man.”) And yet! Somehow! Beloved queer power couple Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli conceived, carried, and birthed an entire human baby into the world without us having a clue it was happening! They just announced it casually on Instagram — on Mother’s Day — last night! George Elizabeth is their daughter’s name, and she was born on April 11th. (That’s two Aries in one house, if you’re counting. May the fire goddess bless and keep you, tender flames.)

On Insta, Samria Wiley said:

Happy 1st Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child—our gorgeous daughter, George.💜

Welcome to the world, babygirl. We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother’s Day two ladies could ask for.

George Elizabeth
4.11.2021 💜

And Lauren:

4 weeks ago today, our daughter came into the world and changed everything. We are so happy, so grateful, and so tired. George Elizabeth, 4.11.21 ❤️

I went back to do a quick scan-through to see if we’d missed any clues that Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli were having a baby, and the only hint there was even the thought of a baby on their brain was the Samira-sized teddy bear Samira bought at Christmas last year — which, let’s be honest, was probably for Samrira.

Congratulations, you two mamas! We’re so happy for both of you! Welcome to the world, George Elizabeth, and congratulations on being born after TikTok has erased all traces of heteronormativity; you’ll never know a time when everyone wasn’t already just gay!

  1. These two were so quiet on social media (especially about each other) for a good while that I thought they were getting divorced! And then I was so happy this morning when they came out with the baby news!
