There’s nothing better than a kick-ass storyteller who writes from their gut. I have a thing for Southern writers (especially Dorothy Allison and Flannery O’Connor), butch/femme lit (The Persistent Desire, Persistence: All Ways Butch and Femme, Stone Butch Blues, etc.), and working class feminist lit (Without a Net, etc). I also love the Sedaris duo, Brautigan, Nin, art books of all types (visionary artists are a fave), historical and political non-fiction.
