As the weather becomes colder and you feel more inclined to stay in, you might be looking for more things to watch or have on in the background while you indulge in whatever fall-flavored vices you have. Personally, there’s nothing I like to do more than pour myself tea and snuggle up to my computer monitor to watch strangers play video games online.

During the frantic start of quarantine, I was afforded a small comfort from the conversational sounds of streamers and the video games they were playing while I did my daily tasks. I’d search for a game that I was into, click around for a bit, and eventually find a streamer who had a community that I felt comfortable in. Which more times than not, was a streamer who was openly queer or who had taken measures to make sure their stream was a safe space.

For those interested in watching people play video games, but aren’t sure where or who to start with — check out this list of amazing queer streamers/content creators. And if you like these streamers and find yourself enjoying their content, consider donating directly to them as the platform they stream on takes a cut of their profits.

LuxieGames (she/her)

  1. yessss this is delightful! Vs on Channel 47 on youtube and Laila Dyer are both trans women gamers who have a loooot on their respective channels. Vs does a lot of reviews of indie games, and Laila has an extremely soothing voice.

  2. I love this list!! I also recommend Tanya DePass – CypherOfTyr on Twitch (and all social media).

I am usually very bad at shameless self promotion but my friends have love-bullied me into commenting this: while not really…cozy, if you’re looking for something queer and chaotic, I stream on Twitch. :D My username is PunkyStarshine there, and on YouTube where I upload any of the streams from the story games I play (The Last of Us, TLOU2, Life is Strange: True Colors, and The Quarry so far!) but I also sometimes hop on to play Fortnite or really whatever strikes my fancy. Okay that’s all thanks for listening BYE

  3. So happy to see some great queer streamers highlighted! twitch can be pretty toxic to queer folks in the wrong corners, so finding lgbtq+ creators has been a necessary gamechanger for my enjoyment of the site. If I may recommend one more fantastic streamer who fits this bill, Nikatine is a fantastic variety streamer who does a lot of role play & city builder games, and talks a lot about bicycles & going to soccer games with her girlfriend :) her streams are an absolute delight and i think a lot of autostraddle readers who like the above streamers would also like her content

  4. I was particularly interested in the section that touched upon game art outsourcing https://www.argentics.io/. It’s fascinating to see how game developers are leveraging the talents of artists from different backgrounds to enhance their gaming experiences. By outsourcing game art, they can bring in fresh perspectives and unique art styles that resonate with a wider audience. This not only enriches the visual aspects of games but also promotes diversity and inclusivity within the industry.

  5. When the weather turns colder, one of my favorite things to do is watch strangers play video games online, especially while snuggled up with tea. During quarantine, I found comfort in the conversations of streamers, particularly those who fostered safe spaces, including openly queer streamers. For those interested in video game streaming, check out this list of amazing queer streamers. Consider supporting them directly since platforms take a cut of their profits. Happy diablo 4 leveling and enjoy the captivating content!

The way each streamer contributes to making the platform a safe and welcoming space, regardless of who you are, is truly commendable.
