The first thing I thought when I saw this episode was coming out was damn, Willow is about to put herself through some emotional labor trying to explain this aspect of her life — and my goodness do I hope it’s worth it.

We do lose something when dedicated queer spaces like Into, Girlfriends and SheWired shutter or AfterEllen goes full TERF, but we also lose something when The Awl, The Hairpin and The Toast do. These were places where writers were free to experiment, to be weird, to make writer-first content that isn’t easily monetizable.

So much has happened, and in many ways it feels impossible for me to not look at everything through the lens of the insurrection in the U.S. Capitol. This is just one of those times where it’s as much as I can do to look at all the many ways America is, quite simply, falling apart right now. So this week’s Extra!
