General Submission Guidelines
Features: We accept submissions for feature articles (1,000 - 3,000 words) on topics related to queer, feminist or "outsider" culture. We're looking for smart, well-informed opinions expressed in a funny and conversational tone. Stories should be relevant/timely and have a specific angle that makes it an Autostraddle story rather than something that would appear elsewhere. Stay away from academic or "bloggy" style writing.
We're especially interested in "on-the-ground" journalistic features (stories for which the majority of information for the story is gathered far far away from your desk/laptop) as well as pieces from disabled women, trans* women, women of color and women over 35.
Format is relatively open -- feel free to submit top tens and interviews.
Submit your story idea or a completed draft of your story, pasted in the body of your email. Attach a resume (pdf) and a link to where we can find more of your writing online.
Do not ever send us a word document or we will scream. Thank you.
Please send us only one feature story pitch at a time.
Reviews: 400-800 words of lively, edgy language. For cookbooks or movies, contact Laneia. For albums/concerts, contact Crystal. For books, contact Rachel.
Due to the high volume of submissions, we can only accept a small percentage of what we receive and we are unable to consider any applicants who do not send all of the required materials.

Queer City Guides
Pitch Deadline: Ongoing
Materials: Pitch your city to Laneia [at] autostraddle dot com. She'll let you know whether or not that city has already been taken. If it hasn't, you'll be provided with detailed instructions on producing your city guide. You can also just take a look at what cities have already been done here.
City Guides can be for any city in the world, including the ones on our list of the Most Lesbianish Cities.
You'll be responsible for crafting a comprehensive guide addressing things like the degree to which the LGBT scene is G vs. L, the environment for queer families, the college scene, local events/festivals, activist groups, nightlife, trans-friendliness, etc. You'll also need to provide at least five of your own high-res photos (which you own the rights to), links to the places you talk about (and phone numbers/addresses when necessary), and whatever insidery details you've got.
These guides can absolutely be collaborative if you've got friends/family who wanna work on it with you.
