A Scene & Notes From Kamala’s Novel Zigzags
I’m sharing part of a scene from the book that captures the essence of why I love to write fiction: so I can write the fantasy dates with girls I adore, whether or not they happened quite that way.

I’ve had three full-time jobs for this company for 11 years and today I’m taking the triumphant step of knocking that down to two!
The Autostraddle TV Team takes on Twitter’s “Five TV Shows to Get to Know Me” meme. Yes, our relationships with television are perfectly fine and healthy THANKS.
I just want a gay utopia, okay?
In honor of our 10th birthday, our Birthday Issue, and your senior editors’ intrepid love for all things DIY and tangible in a world determined to go all digital, we invite you to send Autostraddle a physical birthday card to celebrate our big day.
“I hadn’t yet come to terms with being a lesbian, so I also spent a lot of time making excuses not to have sex.”
“I never could explain why my heart pounded when her soft hands reached out for mine. Why it felt like I was the only girl in the world, singing with her at the top of my lungs. The way my eyes would nervously glance down at her chest in that purple lace bra and white tank top. Until I could.”
We put our heads together and this is what the Autostraddle Team wants for the holigays! We think you’ll find some sweet stuff for your loved ones in here, too.

“I wear this shirt at least three times a week.”
“I like to think I’ve put my talking-back skills to great use as an adult who enjoys proving points and getting the last word and being right.”
“The thing is, if the people in your life respect you, they’ll give you the space to figure out where you’re comfortable. It’s YOUR name. You’re the person who has deal with it every second of your life.”
“I wanted to not care where I was going that/any day; a girl who’d interrupt her routine for a brush with honesty.”
“I had two stuffed animal bear friends as a child. Pretty tight crew, I know, but two bears was enough as I also had an imaginary friend who was an adult woman that I had to entertain. I was only one child!”
The kind of miniseries that seems like a great idea when your fever is at its highest, truly.
“How many lives has Autostraddle changed? How many lives has it saved? Thanks, Riese.”
