Carmen’s Team Pick: Vote for a Lesbian

I think it is important that we elect some big-deal lesbians soon. Do you know we’ve never even had an out lesbian serving in the Senate? This is sad. Especially since the amount of gay people in government directly correlates to how successful gay legislation will be, and I care about gay legislation, and I heard you might, too, since it’s what prevents us from doing things like getting married, and being happy. Also what makes me happy is the vision of a lesbian government takeover. But I digress.

Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin, might be running for Senate. And she might become the first out lesbian to serve there. And girl, she better run. And you better tell her! You can encourage her to run by singing this petition, and I really think you should.

Baldwin has grappled with history before. And she won. She’s currently serving as a Wisconsin Representative in the House, and is the first woman ever to be elected by WI’s people to do so.

And Baldwin’s experience dealing with gay issues is promising, to say the least: she is the Co-Founder, Co-Chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, a leader on ENDA and hate crimes legislation, and even authored of a piece of legislation extending benefits to same-sex partners of federal employees.

Tammy Baldwin running would be one small step for gay rights, and one giant leap for the aforementioned lesbian government takeover. So get signing.

  1. “lesbian government takeover” sounds like part of the gay agenda that the Republicans are still madly scared of.

Also it sounds like the name of a good indie movie. Maybe Riese would watch it.

  2. If she runs, I’m totally changing my voting registration back to Wisconsin to vote for her. I’ll just say I live in my mom’s basement.
