It’s April, it’s spring, and you deserve to read something that will make you laugh! Take this quiz and find out which funny queer book you should read this month. Share your preferences for literary humor (and answer a few questions about fruit, sock, and color inclinations) and the quiz will provide an excellent recommendation. A variety of senses of humor are included! Dark humor informed by decolonization politics? Check! Irish queer teen girl sarcasm? Check! Feminist satire of the millennial workforce lifestyle trend? Check! And more!

So excited to read Death Before Dessert!
I hope you like it Sarah! I’m excited that there are more queer cozy mysteries being published these days.
This was so fun! Thank you for making this quiz.
My pleasure!
Casey, I always enjoy your recommendations, and this is a very fun way to decide among them! Brb, going to look at all the spring arrivals.
Thanks so much! 😊 Making the quizzes is very fun!
What book is that first quote from?
The first quote is from Too Much Lip by Melissa Lucashenko!
Thank you. Just added it to my reading list!
Not to be That Person, but could someone please comment with what all the books/their summaries are?
The books are:
WOW NO THANK YOU by Samantha Irby
DEATH BEFORE DESSERT by A.E. Radley
PLEASE MISS by Grace Lavery
TOO MUCH LIP by Melissa Lucashenko
SPACE OPERA by Catherynne M Valente
MESSY ROOTS by Laura Gao
THE VERY NICE BOX by Laura Blackett and Eva Gleichman
NOT MY PROBLEM by Ciara Smyth
Death Before Dessert sounds AMAZING. Going to buy right now.
I know right!
These Quizes are my recent favorite on Autostraddle (except for Animalstraddle which makes me smile and Bocce’s tail wag everytime we think about it)……
APRIL BOOK CHOICE: “DEATH BEFORE DESSERT”
These quizes are trully uncanny. One of my favorite genres on TV are light, female oriented, murder mysteries like “Frankie Drake Mysteries”, Miss Fishers Mysteries, Murder is my life etc.”
Just ordered the paperback. Real bonus of this quiz is the chance to learn about books I never probably would have found on my own!!!
+100! I love all the quizzes and especially the book rec quizzes.
I have to hand it to the AS team….their creativity is off the charts…
By the way, is that a christmas cactus? I do a lot of gardening…so curious…..
Yes, you have a good eye for plants! It’s my 15 year old Christmas cactus, known as The Princess. I also have a 30 year old one known as The Queen. The Queen grew from a cutting from my mom’s houseplant.
I changed my profile picture to her for AnimalStraddle / April Fools and decided to keep it for awhile.
Bocce changed my profile picture to his for animalstraddle day, and now won’t let me change it back. I guess I am stuck with it.
Casey, thanks for this and the book reco it produced (Death before dessert).
Also, just checked out your webpage and it is a rich source of books I need to catch up on…..
THANKS!!
I think Death before dessert is exactly what I should read. thank you!
I got Messy Roots: A Graphic Memoir of a Wuhanese American by Laura Gao.
I remember thinking it sounded interesting when it came out but I didn’t realize that it’s funny, which makes it more interesting to me right now.
i have read almost all of the books in the image and there are NO bad results here! thanks as always, Casey 🤗
I am impressed, I should be asking you for book recos…..
Now I get it….checked your bio….college professor….makes sense….
Love the description:
college professor, overthinker, book nerd, baking addict, vintage lover
I was not a college professor but an academic of sorts, retired researcher (Ph.D. chemistry); overthinker – check; book nerd – my house looks like a library – check; baking addict – love to eat baked goods – count? ; vintage lover – do collect some antiques – check
love ALL of this
I read “Irish queer teen girl sarcasm” in the intro and then answered all the questions in the way I thought was most likely to get me that result…it worked!!! Definitely wanna read this one
I read cozy mystery in the first question and then tried to answer the questions in such a way as to get that result and it did NOT work! LOL But luckily others shared their responses. Honestly all the options sound great! Thanks for this quiz.
Also
The Awkward Truth by Lee Winter
No Strings by Lucy Bexley
Anything written by Robin Alexander
So many great self-published works out there.
Was picking the glasses and thinking: “this is just your Miss Honey (from Matilda) crush showing up”
Ending up with Death before desert which has a perfect Miss Honey like cottage on the cover. Guess you really read my mind.
I got Wow, No Thank You which I already read and it wasn’t funny in any way 😭
An older woman and her queer niece solving mysteries together does sound like exactly the sort of story I’d enjoy lol. Thanks for the fun quiz and rec.
I’m super excited to read Too Much Lip! These quiz recommendations are always excellent – still trying to get over She Drives Me Crazy from the last quiz I’ve done here!
