Playlist: Just Fruit

I don’t know, I just like fruit. I excluded songs whose titles don’t actually reference the fruit, in its fruit form (so, “orange sky,” “lemonade,” and “cherry pie” were all out). I only chose fruit that could be represented by an emoji (sorry, grapefruit, cantaloupe, and peacherine). For each fruit, I picked up to 3 song(s) fitting those criteria, and here we are.

Also, I will say, I played this as a party mix and it was relatively successful if a bit weird. Go forth and experiment, my dear fruits and fruit-lovers.

  1. Mango is the number one fruit in the world and yet it does not get that much musical representation. What gives?
    Does Mango need a new PR person or agent of some sort?

  2. The Pineapple vs. The Watermelon – Xiu Xiu
    This made me think that It’s been a while since I’ve had pineapple/watermelon juice. It’s so refreshing, great for the summer and goes really well with vodka.

  3. I’d like to offer up Led Zepplin’s Tangerine and suggest a queer lady type musician do a cover of it ASAP because look at these lyrics:

    “Measuring a summer’s day, I only finds it slips away to grey,
    The hours, they bring me pain.

    Tangerine, Tangerine, Living reflection from a dream;
    I was her love, she was my queen, And now a thousand years between.

    Thinking how it used to be, Does she still remember times like these?
    To think of us again? And I do.”

    They beg for some of that slow, soft sad guitar shit that queers ladies not me love.

  4. I just listened to Amy Winehouse’s Cherry and thought it would be similar to her posthumous song Cherry Wine, which features NAS. It was not.

  5. I’d like to mention Girls of Wild Strawberries by Guided by Voices because that’s the band that saved my life.

  6. another for the multiple fruit per song category: “peach, plum, pear” by joanna newsom.
