No Filter: Samira Wiley Bought a House, May the Lord Open Up Her Pool

This week, Taylor Swift enlisted so many respectable gay people to be in a music video for a song that is at best, out of touch; and at worst, the worst; but! It does seem like a lot of young people and heterosexuals are truly enjoying it. Pleased by the activism and the inspired children. Also, aside from the Adam + Steve folks, it’s really great thing to watch with the sound off.

Of course the other big Insta story besides people continuing to celebrate Father’s Day for some reason and various celebrities being involved in corporate Pride campaigns is that Cara Delevingne and Ashley Benson, who have been dating for quite some time, are now OFFICIALLY dating, as per Instagram, an important source of news.

Please tell me that’s the real estate agent and she bought a Praise Be t-shirt for this occasion

Hello yes I will clean your room so you can go meet the homies it would be my pleasure and much easier than trying to figure out what books are on your nightstand by looking really closely at my computer screen.

I imagine everybody clearing the pool for this photograph to be taken similarly to how I imagine Moses parting the red sea.

One time in boarding school, the boys dorm was cleared out in the middle of the night because they’d gotten a tip that someone had snuck in marijuana, and everybody’s room was searched, and two of my friends had an ESPECIALLY thorough search b/c they were known to be drug-users but all that turned up from it was that they had indeed stolen the framed fox photograph from the hallway of the building where all our classrooms were (which they’d done weeks earlier just because it seemed like a funny thing to do) and a container of muscle-building protein powder they’d bought at GNC to assist their workouts called WOLF PACK. So every time I see the words WOLF PACK I think about the draconian counselors exiting their exhaustive search with just a huge framed photo of a fox and, because they somehow deemed it suspicious, a big tub with the words WOLF PACK on it.

Candyland has been turned over to the homosexuals just as the good Lordess intended.

Laverne Cox is Princess Loli, of course!

Adam Lambert is Lord Licorice and Ellen DeGeneres is Mister Mint. I’m just riffing here.

  1. Sorry, but I need to say this, that is one of the most simpleton lyrics I’ve ever heard in my life. For Pete’s sake even my 5 year godson can do it better

  2. Am I the only one concerned about the absence of Lauren Morelli in both of Samira’s photos?

  3. I… like the tune ! And the video ! I like her sense of humour. Am I a closet Swiftie ?

Can someone tell me though, who’s the Whopper to her Fries ?

  4. “Can’t wait to see what happens when we decide how to combine Tongue Out Tuesdays with Taco Tuesdays”: I see what you did there.

  5. Please hire a working class southern queer to write a piece about how truly terrible and offensive that taylor swift video is.

    • Working class southern queer here who just moved to Chicago to escape it- it’s not that offensive. Just a few months ago I watched a bunch of people who looked a lot like the ones in this video protesting drag queen story hour at the library. I’m fairly tired of people working overtime to pretend that this video is anything but a little tone-deaf. Is it over-simplifying the problem to the detriment of southern folks who aren’t bigots? Yes. Does it ignore the history of poor southerners who are used by rich white northerners? Yes. But I don’t think it’s that bad- it’s a 4 minute music video. If people want that history, they can read a book. I think for the most part, the video is fun and celebrates joy.
