A. is a totally complete incomplete paraplegic and thirty-something hanky-in-the-pocket cartoonist weirdo! They spent the majority of their young life sketching in hospitals, and experienced their first heartbreak at age 8 during game 6 of the ’96 NBA championships.
I had what can best be described as a plus sized cousin it for hair, I made my Big Chop in installments. Congratulations!! Also, it’s totally normal to feel like trimming instead of styling on a bad hair day now.
It’s like breaking up with your hair, your comfort blanket and your long-hair regimen routine all at once.
It’s almost as bad as breaking up with a long time lover. Seriously. I recommend spending the weekend in your PJs with gallons of dark chocolate ice cream and a hug pillow.
I cut mine short gradually. Years after I now go to the barber every month. Undercut with a side-part pomp. To change it up a bit I just do the shaved sides shorter than normal. The only thing I don’t do (yet?) is a skin fade on the sides.
bonus: I’m now addicted to hair pomades, hair clays, and hair pastes.

The cold is the hardest part of the change! I never knew my ears could be so cold!
I flirted with the “high-n-tight” in college. I most noticed the cold on the back of the neck and down the sides.
Oh I so get it.

My heartfelt congratulations ! It may feel colder, but it’s also lighter !
(the first couple times washing my hair after getting a major cut): oh, oh god, I took WAY too much shampoo! How could I be so stupid!
*contemplates becoming catholic simply so I can confess my grievous sin*
Careful, confession has a way of extracting much, much more.
