Satellite of Love: Queer Horoscopes for August 2017
“This month, we get to say no and yes. No to toxic relationship patterns and deeply internalized self-hatred. Yes to sweetness, hotness, surprise, reciprocity, and insight.”
“This month, we get to say no and yes. No to toxic relationship patterns and deeply internalized self-hatred. Yes to sweetness, hotness, surprise, reciprocity, and insight.”
This month begins with all the feels turned way high. With three planets in Cancer, we’re getting a guided tour through the more sensitive places in our hearts.
Jupiter is our inner gay cheerleader, and as it moves direct this month our spirits will be donning those striped athletic socks and creating rowdy, raunchy chants against all the forces of oppression.
After April’s gentle lessons to release and surrender, May is here to get us into trouble.
When Venus goes retrograde, all our past decisions are up for review. If you’re generally aligned with yourself and your desires, this doesn’t have to be a hard time. But if there’s something you’re trying not to face, expect some revelations.
You don’t have to hide under your pillows or hide from your partners this month, but expect a few potholes in the otherwise smooth pavement of your relational rapport.
“Eclipses are times when our ordinary lives are interrupted, when we’re asked to reckon with hidden desires and motivations, secrets long buried, and unexpected breakthroughs and revelations.”
This month, we’re looking at your coming year in queer love: how you’ll be able to grow, where you’ll be able to heal, and where you can hold the faith and keep the dream alive. Here’s your roadmap to how to love yourself better this year, and show up for the ones you love — whether that’s your committed life partner or your an international network of queer communities.
“What a strange way to end the year. How strange to talk of personal love, right now, as though we can separate it out from love for everyone who is suffering and endangered. But queer love can and must encompass that—what are we here for if not to create new ways of loving, new communities of care, and a world with less repression and hatred?”
When you tap into your sensitivity, you’ll know immediately when something’s harmful (whether that’s a controlling person or a toxic chemical), you’ll trust what your gut is telling you, and you’ll be able to help others with your insights and awareness.
A pile of gigantic, fiery-hearted monsters sleeping sweetly together is a good metaphor for this month. Even the gruffest, most cynical, and most wounded amongst us should be able to find some kind of sweet solace this month. But that doesn’t mean all our problems will disappear.
This is a great time to release those old, dead stories about needing to be perfect to deserve being loved. This is a perfect time to remember that you get to make new choices about the present moment, free of attachment to the past or fear of the future.
“New Moons are often a time for planting seeds and quiet reflection, but that with all that fire energy, expect this time to feel more erotically charged, more restless, and more externally focused. Use that fire energy wisely!”
“Call your heart back. Gather yourself back into the warmth of your deepest loves. Find out what you need to feel safer, to know that we have your back, that we will do our best to keep you with us.”
This month is all about love as a learning process. We begin the month with Sun and Venus (our sense of self, and how we attract love) in Gemini–sign of curiosity, humor, and investigation.
“We wanted to be pagans too or witches, maybe. Anything that would make us feel powerful because mostly we felt like we were at everybody else’s mercy. We wanted skirts and big boots, like ‘I will french kiss you and then stomp on your face.’ I wanted to be Neve Campbell. I wanted it to be real.”
With several planets traveling through Taurus this month, we’re attuned to a slower pace and a sweeter sense of life.
We talk about some great episodes of the Lore Podcast, a few terrific essentials for starting off your altar, a bunch of amazing home remedies, and a drawing of a certain True Gay Icon as a witch.
I hope y’all out there are ready for a change — this is an eventful month! With some fiery Aries energy and a few aspects to Uranus this month (planet of revolution, upheaval, and queerness), you’ll have a few chances to let go of whatever’s been holding you back, and start fresh.
Eclipse season is always an emotionally charged time when stakes feel higher and we’re more aware of what is dying and what is being born.
Tap into that Capricorn energy to be patient and realistic about whatever comes up, and honor your inner wise old crone this month as you navigate all your loves and likes and lusts: picture yourself in ten, twenty, or thirty years and think about the life you’d like to build.
