Gays, get in here! Over Labor Day weekend, we learned Letitia Wright of Black Panther fame is officially joining an elite group of openly queer actors who have held major roles across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including openly bisexual Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, openly gay actor Ian McKellen as Magneto, and openly bisexual Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. This was confirmed after her wife posted pictures of them together at Wright’s recent play premiere.
The 32-year-old British-Guyanese actress, best known for playing Shuri in Black Panther and eventually taking up the mantle herself in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is currently starring in a revival of Tracey Scott Wilson’s The Story at London’s National Theatre. And while Wright has historically kept her romantic life extremely private, that appears to be changing––or maybe not.
Wright’s partner, who goes by Angel-Vicki on social media, recently shared several photos publicly from the play’s opening on her Instagram account, including pictures of herself and Wright together and with Wright’s mother. The photos, which made it very clear the two are a couple, quickly made their way across Black queer social media, where the response was less of “Wait, Letitia Wright is queer?” and much more of “We knew it!”
But what was more shocking is that apparently this relationship hasn’t exactly been a secret. It was just being posted about on a much quieter corner of the internet.
Angel-Vicki, who has a significantly smaller social media following than her famous partner, had actually been sharing glimpses of their relationship without many people noticing. In November 2025, she shared a photo dump that included cupcakes decorated with pictures of both of their faces to celebrate their birthdays. You would have only been able to catch it if you were both following Angel-Vicki and swiping through that one very particular post from her. She also listed herself as “married” in her Instagram bio, while Wright also referred to herself as married when interacting with followers in the comment section of her finsta account. So there’s been breadcrumbs of their relationship online for quite some time. Most of us simply weren’t looking or didn’t know where to look.
And while Angel-Vicki might have thrusted their relationship in front of thousands, Wright herself did the same but to her over three million followers. She reposted a photo that Angel-Vicki included of herself and Wright’s mother in her dump to her Instagram story with the caption “My queens.” It was a small gesture that had a very large impact for someone who has spent years keeping her romantic life private.
For longtime fans, speculation about Wright’s sexuality is nothing new. Black queer corners of the internet and MCU fandom have wondered for years whether the actress might be part of the community, even as Wright herself avoided ever publicly discussing her relationship status or sexuality, a boundary many speculated might have been tied to her not-so private relationship with Christianity. In 2022, Wright told The Guardian she developed a deeper relationship with Christianity while struggling with depression and considering walking away from acting, describing her faith as giving her “the centering I needed, the good foundation I needed.” She also explained that while her parents had always had faith, religion wasn’t something her family continually practiced, and she ultimately developed her own relationship with Christianity as an adult.
That history made conversations about Wright’s possible queerness more complicated, particularly because one of the biggest controversies of her career intersected with religion. In December 2020, Wright faced widespread criticism after sharing a 69-minute video that questioned COVID-19 vaccines from Tomi Arayomi, a leader associated with the Christian ministry Light London Church. The video included unsupported claims about vaccines as well as anti-LGBTQ+ comments. At the time, Wright defended herself by arguing that people should be allowed to question popular opinions, although she later said her intention was simply to raise questions about what people were putting into their bodies.
Wright later denied a separate 2021 report that she had promoted anti-vaccine views while working on Wakanda Forever. Reporter Simon Hattenstone revisited those allegations with her in that same 2022 Guardian article, specifically asking her about the anti-LGBTQ+ views expressed by the pastor whose video she shared. Wright rejected the suggestion that those views represented her, saying that being characterized as “transphobic, homophobic [and] anti-vaxxer” reflected things she was not.
But for queer fans watching from the outside, Wright’s intense Christian faith and conservative religious context surrounding that controversy inevitably raised questions about whether that same faith might have also influenced how publicly she was willing to discuss her sexuality. But that was always just speculation. Wright herself has never publicly said that her faith prevented her from coming out. In fact, even with these pictures being shared, Wright still has not publicly said she is queer.
Instead, much of the conversation around Wright’s sexuality has been based on what fans have picked up on over the years. For example, Wright’s appearance on the red carpets of the Wakanda Forever press cycle and premieres leaned a lot more masculine in comparison to what we saw from her style when she first became an international star in 2018. And while, of course, presentation doesn’t always determine sexuality, for queer fans who had already been speculating about Wright for quite some time, it certainly didn’t go unnoticed.
And while fans of Wright have been understandably excited to see her finally confirm what we’ve speculated all long, all of that attention may have scared the notoriously private actress and her partner back into hiding. Because since the photos went viral, spreading across social media platforms and reposted by countless accounts, both Wright and her partner Angel-Vicki have seemingly deactivated their Instagram accounts. Now, neither have explained why, so we can’t just assume the viral attention is what prompted their disappearance, but the timing is certainly interesting.
But even if they’ve decided to retreat back into their privacy they’ve clearly enjoyed for years, I’m glad we got this brief glimpse into a part of Wright’s life that she’s seemingly been living authentically all along.
