Pop Culture Fix: Girls5eva Will Get 3gether for A Second Season

Y’all I went to the MOVIES this weekend. First time in a year in a half! I saw In the Heights and enjoyed it very much; those big group numbers looked great on the big screen. Anyway, enough of your Random Valerie Fact Fix and on to the Pop Culture Fix.

+ Girls5eva was renewed for Season 2! I can’t wait 5 new episodes!

+ Dee Rees chatted with Vanity Fair about Pariah and more

+ I guess this Gossip Girl reboot is really happening.

+ Something I personally am very excited about, Robin from Stranger Things (aka Hawkins’ resident lesbian) is getting a prequel podcast.

+ Never Have I Ever Season 2 gets a premiere date

+ The Hollywood Reporter interviewed ‘Paris Is Burning’ Emcee Junior LaBeija about Pose, RuPaul, and more

+ Tiger King cast an actual non-binary person for a non-binary role, truly wild, pun intended

+ Atypical dropped its Season 4 trailer

+ Backstage did a highlight on Lena Waithe

+ Gina Yashere, one of the co-creators of Bob Hearts Abishola, talks about coming out and her new memoir.

+ Looks like Jen Richards finally achieved her dream of playing gay on TV so that her partner would vote for her in the Autostraddle Gay Emmys

+ Younger‘s Molly Bernard joins the long list of people who grew a deeper understanding of their own queerness as a direct result of playing queer

+ I almost missed this nugget of info but my friend Bridget from The TV Junkies is always looking out: It seems like Humberly González might be playing queer YET AGAIN because she loves us so, this time on the show Nurses

  1. As it relates to “Nurses”, if I remember correctly Ash was still with the paramedic lady when last season ended and atleast one of the other nurses was single, so we shouldn’t get our hopes up.

    • Yes, agreed. The bi community is so diverse and a lot of us have been defining the word to include non-binary people since the 90s. A lot of us also ARE non-binary people, and have been for a while.

I’m happy for people to choose and define their own terms, but at the end of the day, bi, pan, and everyone else in the tent should be banding together to fight for all kinds of inclusion, not throwing each other under the bus.

  2. Lol a podcast? A podcast about the lesbian character? Now taking bets on whether this is because she is barely included in the next actual television season of television show Stranger Things and they wanted to throw a meagre bone to their queer fans…
