Pop Culture Fix: Tessa Thompson Is a Damn Delight as Eartha Kitt’s Catwoman on “Drunk History”

Hello and welcome to your weekly Pop Culture Fix, which I am writing for you even though the only thing I can think about is SOCCER.

+ Tessa Thompson was Eartha Kitt on last night’s Drunk History (as narrated by Nicole Byer). You gotta watch!

+ Lil Nas X came out on the last day of Pride, just thought you should know! Also Miley Cyrus performed with him last weekend in Glastonbury.

+ The 15 biggest lesbians in showbiz history.

+ “I’m the lesbian football fan who went viral at the Women’s World Cup.”

+ Rutina Wesley chatted with Vulture about this season of Queen Sugar.

+ Lucy Lawless cannot believe she’s still having to convince people Xena and Gabrielle were gay. (There is, inexplicably, an autoplay video with sound at this link???)

+ Mel’s getting another love interest on Charmed.

+ Brittani Nichols is writing on this; maybe you’ve heard of her?

+ Lady Gaga looks back on how she ended up with a “fucking Oscar in her hand.”

+ Shonda Rhimes chatted with Variety about feminism, Grey’s Anatomy, and her new #ShowUs campaign.

+ How One Day at a Time was saved by Pop TV. Also,  Gloria Calderon Kellett and Mike Royce talked to Deadline about the cultural importance of the last-minute save.

+ Hannah Gadsby’s genius follow-up to Nanette.

+ A&E is bringing back Ghost Hunters, which feels like queer culture at this point.

+ 😂 (30 seconds after the USWNT defeated England yesterday.)

+ There’ve been some rumors that Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula in the live-action Little Mermaid but Lizzo’s not giving up that easily.

+ Kate McKinnon has her Marianne Williamson impression ready to go.

  1. Thank you for these links! I’m not sure if my computer is glitching, but the link for the Lady Gaga article seems to go to the instagram for Jeremy Konner.

    • There’s an episode where Xena reads Gabrielle a love poem at sunset THAT SHE HAD SAPPHO HERSELF WRITE FOR HER but ya they’re straight

  2. Right now listening to Recode Decode podcast where Kara Swisher interviewed Netflix content VP Cindy Holland & everyone and my fav Natasha Lyonne. Kara asks Cindy about One Day at a Time and Cindy pretty much says it was canceled cause the cost to performance ratio wasn’t good, but fans and critics loved it enough to give it two more seasons. Natasha really is a delight here imho.

  4. Was not expecting such a strong physical reaction to Kate’s SUIT in that video! The chain!!

  5. The headline image alone of Tessa Thompson as Eartha Kitt as Catwoman was enough to boost my whole fuckin day.
I don’t know what’s going to happen when I get around to watching that bit.

  6. Nice interview with Lucy Lawless, but you can tell it was written by an Aussie.

The middle of winter is, at best, “chilly” in Auckland. It hasn’t had full-on frosts in years.

If a Sydneysider wants to experience actual freezing weather in winter, all they need to do is drive 280 km down the road to Canberra.
