Queer as in F*ck You

“Tam O’Shaughnessy and Sally Ride, the first American woman to fly in space, shared a passion for getting girls involved in STEM. It led them to co-found Sally Ride Science, a company focused on equity and inclusion in science education. But, there was much more to Tam and Sally’s relationship. Tam gives us an intimate look at their decades-long partnership: how they met and fell in love, the pressures they faced as a queer couple, and their long-awaited and public coming out.”

A question we get asked all the time is “how can I get started as a writer” and listen — Autostraddle Managing Editor Rachel Kincaid is an exceptional writer, on top of being one of the best editors I know. You’re going to have a chance this summer to learn from her in her new course “Crafting Personal Essays that Get Published” and you absolutely should not pass it up.

I have not stopped thinking about Britney Spears — not for one single moment — since yesterday: Read Britney Spears’ Full Statement Against Conservatorship, ‘I Am Traumatized’

Before you go! It takes funding to keep this publication by and for queer women and trans people of all genders running every day. And support from readers like you keeps the majority of our site free for everyone. Still, 99.9% of our readers do not support. Autostraddle is fundraising right now to keep our site funded through January 2022. Will you join our community of readers in helping to keep us around?

Carmen is Autostraddle's Editor-in-Chief and a Black Puerto Rican femme/inist writer. She claims many past homes, but left the largest parts of her heart in Detroit, Brooklyn, and Buffalo, NY. There were several years in her early 20s when she earnestly slept with a copy of James Baldwin’s “Fire Next Time” under her pillow. You can find her on twitter, @carmencitaloves.

Carmen has written 361 articles for us.

  1. Good lord the emotional statement by the Loki writer about how important it is to make Loki canon bi and then the quote on screen is literally just Loki admitting that… men have been attracted to him in the past?? Is this your queer representation????? We sincerely have to start demanding better than this and stop sharing shit about the crumbs we are thrown by the Marvel universe industrial complex as if it’s a good thing. This is meant to be a radical website lol
