Daily Fix – The One Where Everyone Defies Expectations, e.g., Stargate Universe & Gay Bloggers

Hello Autostraddle! Today is an extra-special day…
Riese’s Girl-on-Girl Interview with Susan Miller is up! — and here’s a snippet —

I want to portray people who are thirtysomething, or fiftysomething, or sixteen with depth and complexity. And I want to portray queer people the same way. I completely want to blow up stereotypes and dismantle generalizations. I don’t want to write bullshit. I don’t want to cater to the marketplace. I feel an obligation to honor characters, no matter who they are, with my best efforts and intentions.

Today’s must read is from Queerty10 Reasons Against Gay Marriage from a Gay Guy — “What fun is it arguing with an opponent whose arguments against you are outright lies? In fact, we sort of think engaging with a screaming shrill harpy is, how do we say this, ‘beneath us?’ … To make the fight a bit more interesting, we’re throwing the bigots a bone. Want a reason to be against gay marriage? We’ve got ten.”

Stargate Universe is getting a lesbian character! (@i09) Monroe will be revealed as a lesbian, and the script has Sharon & Monroe cooking “like a well-oiled machine,” Sharon sitting and Monroe “cozying beside her, resting her head in Sharon’s lap,” and then later “caressing her hair.” Later Sharon “kisses Monroe tenderly.” MMM. sounds hot. (@secret spoiler sources i will not reveal)

Guerilla Girl Power: Have America’s Feminist Artists Sold Out?: “The Guerrilla Girls, a collection of radical, left-leaning pop artists famed for wearing gorilla masks and fishnets to highlight sexism, racism, and other pillars of injustice, announced this week that its historic archive will be kept, for posterity, by the bluest of America’s blue-chip cultural institutions.” Perhaps there’s something to be said for infiltrating from the inside?(@the independent uk)

Speaking of revolutionary acts by females, Elle France does Stars Without Makeup & Without Photoshopping. (@dorothy surrenders)

New York Senator Ruben Diaz thinks this is not the right time for a gay marriage bill. I think he would prefer when hell freezes over, but by then we’ll all be ugly and who will marry us. You know? (@the advocate)

aaaand The New York Times explains the bill to you here.

On the suicide of a bullied 11-year-old boy — The Media Are Actually Paying Attention to a Dead Feminine Black Boy. (@queerty)

“How did an HIV-positive gay Catholic conservative from the poky English town of East Grinstead end up as one of the most powerful writers in America?”: on Andrew Sullivan (@intelligent life)

green-iconfrom Green: I honestly believe that everyone should have the chance to sew and create and personalize, but when your supplies are being purchased from Urban Outfitters’ new Make It Sew collection, I have to question your intent. This just makes me so sad — like the first time I saw a Strawberry Shortcake t-shirt in a Hot Topic window. Sigh.

carly-icon2from Carly: Someone has created a trailer for a Muppet version of Resident Evil 5. I don’t know why this exists but it’s really funny. Caution: contains some unfortunate Muppet gore:
