“Carmilla: The Movie” Is A Real Thing That’s Happening

In this wild and wacky world of queer pop culture ups and downs, one thing has been consistent these last two year: Carmilla. It started out as an unknown web series, blossomed into the most popular digital content queer women have ever consumed, and now it’s going to be a full-length movie. KindaTV dropped the news and the trailer today at New York Comic Con. The two-minute video is full of thrills, chills, and a fully flirtatious wink at the fans who made the series so popular.

According to Variety, the film, which debuts next fall and will take place after the third season (still in progress), has already signed on “many of the original cast from the digital series, including Elise Bauman (who plays Laura) and Natasha Negovanlis (as Carmilla).”

According to our new TV writer Valerie Anne, who was in the room where it happened, the news made everyone at NYCC scream. In a good way! What a change of pace, 2016! Fans were afraid Carmilla wouldn’t even be renewed after season two, and now a feature film is in the works before the third season has even finished airing? That’s the stuff fandom dreams are made of! (Also according to Valerie Anne, Natasha and Elise teared up; it was their first time watching the trailer.)

Stay alive, you two love birds. Or, like, stay living-dead or whatever the lesbian vampire equivalent is of staying alive.

  1. I was in the public library when I got the YouTube notification that KindaTV had uploaded a video titled “Carmilla: The Movie”. At first glance I thought it was perhaps a spoof, but oh dear lord it was not. Ever wondered how hard it is to contain your gay self when you’re in a public library? VERY DAMN HARD! But I managed, and then had a full-on freakout later.

Super excited to get a movie, and I’ve already signed on for the biggest “package” possible to support the film. More Carmilla, please!!
