A Wednesday upon you, my friends! Here is one (1) Pop Culture Fix for you!

+ Janelle Monáe’s song for Stacey Abrams’ All In: The Fight For Democracy was released yesterday!

+ This new Rebecca trailer is so so so straight???

+ Here, read Drew’s review of Hitchcock’s adaptation instead.

+ Ellen’s returning for her 18th season on September first, and she says “yes, we’re gonna talk about it.”

+ Black Girl Nerds chatted with Janelle Monáe ahead of Antebellum.

+ And also Kiersey Clemons and Tongayi Chirisa!

+ What’s it like to be cancelled by Netflix?

+ The Chi has been renewed for season four. (Have you read Natalie and Carmen’s review of season three yet?)

+ I am late to this, and obviously I’m going to figure out what the hell Quibi is and how to get it onto my phone to watch, but did you know Paula Pell’s in this new series The Mapleworth Murders?

+ Last night The Oscars announced inclusion requirements for Best Picture nominations (love yourself enough to not read the comments on that article!)

+ Regina King became the first Black woman director to have a film selected for the Venice Film Festival with One Night in Miami.

+ An oral history of Lucy Lawless in the Stevie Knicks fajita sketch from SNL.

+ The Walking Dead is ending with season 11 — I honestly don’t know if any of the lezzers are still alive on this show.

+ Lizzo won big at the IHeartRadio Music Awards.

+ Pose will resume filming for season three in NYC in October.

+ And, finally, the Star Trek: Discovery season three trailer.

  1. I might have chortled a little bit when I read the Netflix UK thread on Twitter that posted the Rebecca trailer.
Netflix UK straight up (ahem) asked if “you’d let *insert that random guy’s name* take you to Manderley?” and half the Ladies on there were like,”Naaw, but I’d follow Lily James anywhere!”
But seriously wtf is it with the well lit plethora of straight sex in that trailer?
Btw., there’s a German “Rebecca” Musical that was reeeally good and featured Lucy Scherer of Jemma fame, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=1G6olCiZCW4
I don’t think you need to speak a lot of German to get the message of the song.

  2. I just read that Walking Dead article. So we still technically have two more years of the original series because they are splitting the season in two parts. Plus two more spin-offs after that. Not to mention the Rick Grimes movies. It’s never gonna end.

Oh, and so far, the newest batch of lesbians are still alive. For now.

  3. I wonder if Pose is scrapping ball scenes or if they’re going to use old footage or something.

Also, can Ellen just go away?

  4. Ugh, Ellen. Do us all a favor and fuck off please! I’m so tired of her and I’m so glad I’m not the only one! 💜🖤🦋
