Do you ever feel like a show was made just for you using all your favorite media keywords? That’s how I felt when I first heard about Netflix’s The Body. I saw Catholic school, dancers, ritual-gone-wrong, horror and I was beyond sold.

And in case those words and phrases didn’t make it obvious: The story is also sapphic. Writer and creator Quinn Shephard (who acted in movies like The Miseducation of Cameron Post and wrote/directed episodes of Under the Bridge) started writing the show the year she came out. She says: “It’s satirizing some of the trauma of growing up queer and repressed and the confusion around that.”

A lot of the main cast of girls are relative newcomers on the scene (aka they don’t have Wikipedia “personal life” pages yet) so I’m not sure who among them are queer, but the show WILL feature lesbian reality star Gabby Windey in a recurring role as a coach. Also, almost all of the episodes have women listed as writers.

The show looks freaky and weird in all the best ways, and I can’t wait. I hope it’s just as fun as shows like Yellowjackets and even Mike Flanagan’s Carrie. May the teens-getting-into-supernatural-mischief genre never die.

The series drops next month and you can watch the full official trailer right now!
