BUZZ BUZZ ALERT! Yellowjackets returns for its highly anticipated fourth and final season on November 20! According to a brief (but very good) teaser posted on socials, the final reckoning is nigh. In it, television screens click between news broadcasts about the Yellowjackets finally being discovered and rescued in the wilderness, spliced with footage of the characters. In a bit of 90s cinéma vérité, Kurt Loder appears as himself, breaking the news of the Yellowjackets’ rescue on MTV News.
We haven’t seen our girls since April 2025, but the wait is almost over. Given the scope of the teaser and the fact that this is indeed the final season we’re spending with our favorite cannibals, it seems like much of the season will center the rescue. As a viewer, I’m less interested in the specific details of that rescue and far more interested in the immediate aftermath of it and seeing how the characters as young girls reacclimate to society (or don’t). We’ve only seen brief glimpses of the characters post-rescue so far, but they have been haunting, and I feel myself more drawn to that timeline than to the aftermath of where we left the adult Yellowjackets at the end of season three.
Fortunately Paramount’s official description of the final season suggests that’s exactly where the focus will be: “As the survivors race to bury their sins before rescue arrives and an old flame roars back into town with plans of her own, turns out not every homecoming is a joyous one, and this one’s going to sting.” (Please share theories on what that “old flame” part could be referencing, because that part tripped me up.)
I’m still a little wary of the fact that creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson kept saying in the early years of the show that they were planning for about five seasons and now here we are, ending at four. Maybe that’s better than when shows drag out beyond what was initially planned? Less is more etc.
In any case, I’m ravenous to see how they land this plane (lol), and you can count on weekly episodic recaps by yours truly of course. Be like the Yellowjackets and revisit the past (by re-reading my recaps) ahead of the new season, which again kicks off November 20.
