About Me

About Me

I feel like giving away too much of myself in an “About Me” makes getting to know people way less exciting than it could be. So I won’t do that. But I will tell you that if I made a list of my favorite things, that list would contain the following (in no particular order): reading coming of age novels; writing fiction; fantasizing about tattoos I shouldn’t get right now; star-gazing; buffalo chicken wraps; Rolling Stone; new shoes; Mumford and Sons; playing, coaching, and watching softball; and cooking experiments.

Favorite TV Shows

Whatever’s new and exciting. I don’t have much of an attention span for TV shows. Right now Catfish is pretty interesting, but that’s about the only thing I’ve gone to the trouble of DVRing lately.

Favorite Music

As of recently, I’ve been listening to Mumford and Sons’ newest album “Babel” on repeat. Alkaline Trio’s good anytime. The Gaslight Anthem. My musical taste is kind of all over the place other than those few bands.

Favorite Sandwich

Is this a real question? Alright. Subway. Turkey and pepperoni on roasted garlic bread. It's great.

Favorite Quotes

“The first step–especially for young people with energy and drive and talent, but not money–the first step to controlling your world is to control your culture. To model and demonstrate the kind of world you demand to live in. To write the books. Make the music. Shoot the films. Paint the art.”
― Chuck Palahniuk

“What is the issue that is eating you up? What is the personal fear that you can’t resolve and you can’t tolerate?…If you can be ruthless and honest about your own fear, you express something that other people can’t express. You can resolve your own anxiety – through research, discussion, experiment – and that freedom is what brings you back to writing. What could you never talk about in a million years? Then, write about that.”
–Ripping off Chuck Again

“I was half in love with her by the time we sat down. That’s the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they’re not much to look at, or even if they’re sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are.”–The Catcher in the Rye

“If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place.”
― Nora Roberts

If you find yourself lost in the woods, fuck it, build a house. “Well, I was lost but now I live here! I have severely improved my predicament!”–Mitch Hedberg

Favorite Thing on Autostraddle.com

Easy. Personal Essays. I joke about being a one-person gay island out here in the middle of nowhere, but that’s pretty much how it is. So reading real stories from real people who are dealing with the same things I’m dealing with makes it feel less like that.
