I’d like to point out what an androcentric term this is: Latin <virtus> /wirtuːs/ is derived from <vir> /wir/ ‘man (as opposed to woman)’ and <tus> /tuːs/, a suffix that forms absract nouns: thus, ‘manliness, manhood, i. e., the sum of all the corporeal or mental excellences of man, strength, vigor, fortitude; bravery, courage, valor, gallantry; military talents’, whence also ‘aptness, capacity; worth, excellence; moral perfection, virtuousness, virtue’. Perhaps a less gendered expression, such as “positive qualities,” would be preferable.
