  1. Hello, scientist, here. That US News article is highly misleading about the impact of this study, which is deeply methodologically flawed and highly unethical. The author, J. Michael Bailey, has a history of making highly inflammatory categorical statements about the queer and trans community (specifically trans women) that invalidate peoples’ lived experiences through supposedly “scientific” data and then using the generated controversy to boost his own career. This study was peer-reviewed and published in a very high impact scientific journal and has so far received relatively little backlash except from queer and trans scientists – the broader scientific community has been largely silent. Taken together, this raises very serious concerns about ethics within the scientific community and the fact that there has been no broader condemnation is highly indicative of the scientific community’s understanding of the issues facing LGBTQ+ people. We are not their science project.

  2. I was just gonna come here and say the same about Michael Bailey. Many people in his own academic field regard him with a strong degree of skepticism, and I wouldn’t necessarily be reporting on his work with any seriousness. Shame on PNAS for publishing this, and for JSR and Archives of Sexual Behavior for continuing to publish his work. Researchers at SSSS and IASR should denounce him, yet continue to work with him!

  3. Hi someone from Portland here. First thank you for sharing the article by Karina Brown I think it’s great. But I do take issue with the CNN article about Tear Gas Ted getting tear gassed last night. Like a lot national articles about Portland right now it glosses over the fact that people are very very very angry Fed Wheeler. I think this article in Portland Mercury does much better job of explaining what happened in Portland last night.

  4. That WNBA best 25 article is wild. Arike deserves more respect and excitement in general and I hope she gets that this season, though I’m happy she placed relatively high on the list. And it’s litely shocking Sabrina is so low

  5. Natalie, I would love if you continued Sportsball Edition updates within the weekly AAAs or somewhere on the site, if you want and will be fairly compensated for your time :)

  6. As someone who doesn’t know a lot about sportsballs I would love if the acronyms could be un-acronymed the first time they’re used in an article so us non sportball dorks could easily know which sportball you’re talking about! But that’s just me. Maybe everybody else already knows.

Thank you for these important updates!
