Grey’s Anatomy came back with a bang. (Well, a smooch. But we’ll get there.) Amelia spent the entire episode getting the cold shoulder from Toni because, as I’m sure you remember, we left them last season with Toni showing up at Amelia’s door to profess her love for her, only to realize a naked Cass was already in Amelia’s apartment.
When we return for season 23(!), Toni is giving Amelia the cold shoulder all day. Amelia desperately wants to talk to her, but Toni isn’t hearing her out. They clash over work decisions, and Amelia starts to get frustrated. And at this point I was afraid the show was ending their storyline. I thought it was going to be a dramatic fight and then back to no wlw relationships on the show. I was thankfully wrong!
Eventually, the day leads Amelia to Toni’s front door, where she apologizes again for sleeping with Cass, and explains it was an emotional reaction to being so sure Toni was about get back together with her ex. She regrets it if it means she would lose Toni. She says she’s truly, madly, deeply in love with Toni and that if Toni is done, she’ll move on, but if not, she really doesn’t want to let what they have died. Toni considers her for a moment but then breaks; she’s still in love with Amelia, and she’s not done. The two kiss about it, and while I doubt their road ahead will be paved with roses and rainbows (especially because Toni’s ex is still in the picture, and goodness knows if/when Cass will return to drop bombs) but I’m glad we at least aren’t done with their story yet. I look forward to seeing what Season 23 will bring for our resident gays; here’s hoping none of them disappear into the parking lot of no return.
