You Should Go: PHRESH CUTZ February Fundraiser

You may have noticed that we keep talking about this thing called Phresh Cutz Queer Pop-Up Barbershop, encouraging you to go each month and then showcasing photos of the event featuring badass queers getting their hairs cut by equally badass queers. We can’t stop talking about it because it’s perfect: a Brooklyn-based collective of queer kids with nice hair who want to spread the love, the fun, and the look? What’s not to like?!

Well you’re in luck, because Phresh Cutz is at it again this weekend, with PHRESH CUTZ: Getting to Know You, A Queer Pop-Up Barbershop this Saturday, February 23 in Brooklyn, New York! You know what’s coming, right? We think you should go!

This Phresh Cutz is special for two reasons.

1. It’s a fundraiser! The funds raised will go toward securing a more permanent venue (that will obviously be a safe space and foster community), hiring more staff members, merchandise (!!!), and a website. This event is the precursor to an Indiegogo campaign that’s in the works, but for now the team will be accepting cash donations and doling out rewards.

2. This Phresh Cutz is all about YOU! The event is taking place during daylight hours at a venue that is completely dry (which means please do NOT bring your own alcohol because that’s disrespectful) so it’ll be less of a crazy rager party and more of an intimate “getting to know you” situation. There will be tea, coffee, hot chocolate and snacks galore and lots of beautiful intelligent stimulating hilarious conversation. And haircuts. There will always, obviously, be haircuts.

If for some reason you’re not already completely sold, allow me to borrow some words from the event’s Facebook invitation:

We know queers like to party and dance all night – we know that we definitely do. But what do you do in the daytime? We want to get to know you, maybe cut your hair in some natural light.

Since our first event back in the summer, we’ve been (t)werking our asses off to give you a quality experience with each coming party. We want to provide a safe space to hang out, dance, and get the haircut of your dreams, because you deserve it like that.

Each party we put on comes out of our shallow-ass pockets, from booking fees to booze to making sure that the people who give us their time get the fuck compensated for it, because they deserve it like that too.

We want to keep getting bigger and better. We want to give you the space you deserve, and we want to reward the people who work so hard to make that happen.

As always, you don’t need to get a haircut to come hang out, all ages, sexualties, genders, and hair types welcome. So come hang this Saturday! We’ve missed you.

xo, HF1

Can’t wait to see all your well-coifed selves there, and remember: If you’re really lucky, your face may show up in a post-party photo gallery on this very website, Autostraddle dot com. Dream big, kids. Dream big.
