Well pals, we are finally at Season Three, which Carly describes as “a real treat,” which was sarcastic, obviously. Writer / Actor / Filmmaker Fawzia Mirza joins us as we address topics including looking at your peeper in the mirror, Alice and Dana’s breakup turning Alice into a completely different character, Jenny’s refusal to be a nice Jewish girl who acts like bad things don’t happen, Tina hating the word “clit”, Kate Clinton’s cameo as a sex therapist peddling ice cube trays, Bette’s passionate unemployment and Lara’s special cookies for Dana. We also meet Max and Angus for the first time, see Helena in a white bikini, and meet Carmen’s Mom.
Last week we did a really great mailbag episode that involved cute voice mails from y’all, special guests Robin (who is btw married to Carly) and Lauren (our producer!) that I found truly delightful, so if you haven’t listened to that yet, you truly ought to.

IT SURE IS
This season broke me
I know this is only episode 1, but oh wow do I have feelings already!
With Jenny’s family story line, I’m sure there have been people with similar experiences (and I assume somewhere there are Orthodox Jewish men named Warren and Marshall), and that’s definitely important to represent, but it’s a bit frustrating that that’s basically the only portrayal of Judaism the show ever gives. It ignores how integral queer Jewish women were to feminist Judaism in the 20th century, and how that legacy effects the queer Jewish community here and now.
Yes I love a commentary on the L word that’s trans competent and that y’all don’t deadname & misgender Max even when you’re talking about him pre-transition 😄
I‘ve never seen season 3 and am still not sure I dare to even though I own the dvd set. Will continue listening to your podcast though!
My heart is not ready to relive season 3!
This has nothing to do with season 3 but here are a few of my random comments. If Jenny went to the Writer’s Workshop at the University of Iowa, she would have been more qualified to teach Sandra Bernhard rather than the other way around. I mean there is always room for improvement, but the class she took felt like community college level and Jenny went to the most prestigious writing program in the nation. Also, since I went to the University of Iowa, I was disappointed in Jenny’s complete lack of Hawkeyes gear. Seriously, Iowa City is plastered with Hawkeye hoodies.
Lastly, I am on the same page about Betty. My first exposure to them was as a small child when they use to sing on the show Encyclopedia. I remember thinking they were awful back then, too.
