On 30 Days of Carol: Day 22 – Guess Who’s Unimpressed by Carol:

The Rootabaga Award to kay:

It’s all fun and gaymes until this little girl, perhaps decade later, realizes Cate is her root.

On 30 Days of Carol: Day 23 – Carol Miscellanies:

The Fanfic Of Our Own Award to Snaelle and Amidola:

Snaelle: Who else has the feeling after watching that video that Rooney Mara spends her time looking for other opportunities to work with Cate, checking social media to see what she’s up to, rereading the handful of messages on her phone from Cate and wondering if it would be weird to send a cute/funny follow-up to one of them, and telling herself that Cate and she shared a real connection, but Cate is just extremely busy (whilst she opens a bottle of wine/ jar of icecream/ new box of tissues and rewatches certain scenes with Cate for “acting research”). / Amidola: Once in a while, when they happen to be in the same town, they go out for coffee and R pretends that her whole world doesn’t hinge on these couple of days out of the entire year. Nothing spectacular ever happens, but then it takes her months to get Cate‘s laugh out of her head, the way the wind catches in her hair out of her mind, and just when she thinks she‘s over it, there‘s another gala, another awards show, and there she‘ll be again, with the gait of a lioness in 6 inch heels, towering above everyone else, lighting up the entire room, and it is during those times, that R wonders if life isn’t just a wonderful and terrible merger of art and reality. / She’s automatically defensive when the subject of Cate comes up, insisting that they have a casual, great friendship, and feel so comfortable and relaxed when they see each other. At 3 a.m. however she finds herself angrily asking questions to a blank wall like “Why did you suggest going out for coffee to continue our conversion and then turn up with Todd? Why didn’t you respond when I sent you a heartfelt message of support on the day your headache prevented you filming? Did you even really have a headache?

On 30 Days of Carol: Day 25 – Cracking the Code on These Two New York Lesbians:

Image of a vintage album cover - singer is holding the same cover and it loops forever

And on Autostraddle March Madness — Best First Kiss: Sweet 16:

The WaySuprised Award to Catherine:

honestly, anyone who votes for Piper and Alex over Petra and JR in this round should be banned from Autostraddle. THERE ARE LIMITS TO WHAT WE CAN ACCEPT HERE. (I now know what Heather Hogan was subtweeting)

  1. Sailing on a ship of their combined imagination, snaelle reflects that amidola’s amusing Rooney-Blanchett musings have floated all kinds of fictional journeys in her brain, and hopes that any further encounters betwixt the two actors would not be a titanic mistake, leaving them sunk for words.

I tip my fictional hat at your writing skills amidola!

    • As do I mine at yours!
For a moment there, I was hovering by the door, having already mapped out the next chapter of our voyage, but then decided to at least be marginally on time to whatever I meant to be off to, and did not reply.
Alas, a choice I do continue to regret!
      It’s been such a pleasure!

      • P.S.:
        This one‘s for you, S.

There are times, and they are not few, she tends to choose indie movies above blockbusters after all, when she‘s stuck in small towns all over the world.
The danger of those towns lies not in their remoteness, or even the narrow, slippery roads or treacherous rocks, but in their loneliness.
Left to themselves amongst a gaggle of locals who usually are polite and friendly just enough to take their money and serve their food, the crew and cast are left to themselves in the off hours.
And that’s where Rooney finds herself at these times, amidst strangers that are suspiciously like family for a few weeks.
She is stuck amidst their laughter and jokes that she smiles at, joins conversations quietly, often with an agreeing nod, and incorporates herself seamlessly.
That is, until everyone leaves their raucous evenings to go home.
Because on the days that they are not filming, and especially the days that they will not be filming the morning after, she simply remains.
At bars and pubs and restaurants and inns.
She just does not leave when the first throng does and neither when the second one does, and when the last familiar faces leave to go to bed, they are usually too drunk to notice, that she’s still there, sitting quietly at a bar made of chrome or wood.
She‘ll be looking at her phone then, carefully locked and blocked with a million safety measures before they headed out that evening, because she’s afraid, that the alcohol will make her type words, will make her type questions, one night.
So instead of picking it up, she‘ll simply look at it, look at the time and date and calculate time zone differences.
She‘ll look at it and count hours and days, and she wonders, if maybe, someday, Todd will talk to her about another project.
If there will be another world, magically inserted into this one, for just a few weeks, just a few days, where she gets to be someone else, where they get to be different people, together, again.

  2. I have to admit I spent like 5 minutes to write that comment just to see what others have to say or get the reference.

  3. Not gonna lie – I literally have no idea what you all are talking about half the time.

Camp will mostly likely be me quietly relaxing by the fire, nodding politely in-between muttering awkward musings in random places: “Oh – I’m wearing shoes… they uh, have laces” — all the while desperately trying to keep from blushing and reveal my secret queer crushes.

I wouldn’t have it any other way ^_^ You all made this possible.

    • I once read a Seventeen magazine that had tips on “how to talk to boys at parties” and one of the suggested talking point was: “Your sneakers look cool! Are they comfortable?” Which is a ridiculously bad pick-up line for teenage boys, but I’m pretty sure it’s a great opener for queer people at camp :-D

  4. I would like to NOT THANK Piper/Alex shippers- I hope y’all are feeling terrible about your life choices rn.

(so honored, queer girl. thank you!!!!)
