The Comment Awards Are Keen On 2013

Happy last Comment Awards of 2012, New Year’s babies!

In this final week of the year, we open-threaded our holiday feelingschecked out Art Basel in Miamiinfused some rum and paid homage to Lesbionic Homoerotic Stock Photographs (someone name their band that, stat). Highlights from recurring columns included Straddler on the Street: Tiara, Kristen’s Ode to Salt and Butch Please: Broken-Hearted Butch. Laura gave advice for staying busy indoors, Riese talked about 2012’s queer female characters on TV and Lizz wants to dress you for New Year’s Eve debauchery.

Do your 2013 goals involve not texting that ex, taking up more DIY projects or not making resolutions at all? How about being even more hilarious on the internet like this week’s comment awardees?

  1. I actually found the first verse to Taylor Swift’s Breakup Song About Autostraddle:

You called me a feminist’s nightmare
I don’t know why you would even go there
The comments made me cry at 2 AM last night
So I’ll drive in my truck in the rain away from this fight

    Sorry I couldn’t resist!

  2. my second comment award! now i have something to say the next time a future employer asks what i consider my greatest achievement in life! cheers, autostraddle!

    • You mean, besides having a kick-ass name like Elinor? I’d put the shit down in my resume twice!

      • Employer: So, what do you think you could bring to this job?
Me: Someone on the internet once told me I had a kick-ass name. That could help.
Employer: … Okay, what would you consider your greatest achievement in life so far?
Me: Someone on the internet said I was funny. Twice, even.

(but thank you! my parents were Jane Austen nerds, and I’ll take being named after an excellent character over having a name that people spell correctly any day!)

  3. HOLY SHIT I had no idea I won a comment award.

I could not think of anything better to top off my weekend.
