Anonymous Sex Toy Review: The Sundaze

Over the last few years, sex toy companies and stores have asked us to review their toys in exchange for, you know, their toys. Today we’re reviewing the Sundaze from Fun Factory.

I have to start this review from a place of honesty and vulnerability. I am an efficiency masturbator! I know that every masturbation guide and toy instruction manual advises readers to explore your own body, take your time, relax and have fun, but that’s rarely my style! I know what works, I know what I like, I do that and I have a great time, guaranteed, every time. And that’s okay — all ways are valid. But sometimes I wonder if I should try to be more of an explorer, more of a chill masturbator who just follows what feels good and tries new things.

The Sundaze, a “pulsing and thrusting” vibrator from Fun Factory, promised more exploration, pleasure and play. Fun Factory pitches the toy as the perfect companion for a leisurely Sunday afternoon spent with no agenda and touts the variety of curated combination settings and supposed stimulation of three different types of internal nerve endings. I was predisposed to liking this toy because my go-to vibe for years now has been the Fun Factory Miss Bi (bless her). I like the Fun Factory packaging and materials. The designs don’t seem too kitschy, but they’re also fun and colorful. And they’re always trying new variations on tried and true shapes.

Trying the Sundaze gave me the opportunity to play around with masturbating in a way that I’m not usually inclined to. But it’s also just a little too meandering to make this a go-to toy for me. It took a long time for me to build up to an orgasm, which may work for others, but for me, it was more frustrating than fun and teasing. There are so many patterns, none of which feel super distinct from another, that it was hard to find one that really worked for me, and the simpler vibrations were not very strong. I liked trying out all the patterns, but I never fell in love with any of them. Since the toy is on the smaller end and is a pretty standard shape, I think it would have to be packing way more motor power to be a real standout, especially at a price point of almost $200. The main benefit of that gentler motor was the noise level — this is by far the quietest vibrator I’ve ever used, making it ideal for someone with roommates or for someone who is distracted by the noise of a more powerful toy.

Maybe because the toy isn’t curved, the thrusting never quite hit the spot (pun somewhat intended) for me. This was another opportunity for some teasing and light buildup, but the combination of the shape and the weak motor felt more like hooking up with someone who’s eager to please but is still a little timid. So I opted to use the toy mostly as a vibrator instead of focusing on its thrusting and tapping. The vibe sensation was definitely on the buzzier end, so this was more fun for me to play around with externally than internally or with some combination of internal and external use. And since the Sundaze isn’t curved at all, I had to do a little more repositioning when using it internally — and the outside handle of the toy doesn’t have a loop or any sort of grip like some other Fun Factory toys, which makes maneuvering a little more difficult — though that did lead to me trying out a few new positions! Though it’s definitely not the vibe I’ll reach for to get the job done in the future, I think the Sundaze could potentially be a great toy for use with other toys and sensations or with a partner (which is when I’m always open to more play and experimentation anyway), but it won’t be the thing I grab as a solo toy in a solo sesh again.
