Sunday Funday Loves Bisexuals, Brandi Carlile, and Kehlani’s “Butterfly”

Happy Sunday friendly friends! I hope you’ve had a prosperous week and are feeling loved and refreshed. I’m currently looking at the start of a sunset, and honestly, the sky is such a show off in the best way possible. Also, the sky is totally not straight, right? Like I’m not the only person who looks at the sky every day and is like, “gay,” right? While you take some time to ponder over the queerness of the sky, check out these cool great links I found, just for you.

+ Happy belated International Women’s Day! (Featuring AS Writer KaeLyn Rich dropping some historical knowledge!)

+ More from KaeLyn! This time, she’s talking about babies and bills on WNYC’s Nancy podcast.

+ *extremely evangelical christian voice*: Have you heard the good news of Lizzo, the twerking, flute playing, goddess of us all?

+ Ivy Queen, continuing to be la reina, has reimagined “Quiero Bailar,” this time with an all-women engineering team.

+ Here are 15 things you’ll learn if you spend the day with Brandi Carlile (if only). And here’s her singing “The Joke” live at the Grammys. DID YOU KNOW that Janelle Monáe stood up throughout Brandi’s entire performance? If that’s not queer bonding, I don’t know what is.

+ In the Miss International Queen pageant, a pageant held yearly for trans women, Jazell Barbie Royale has won the title of Miss International Queen — making her the first Black woman, and the first woman of color to win the pageant since it started in 2004.

+ A Nonbinary and Transgender Youth Alliance was founded in Bowie, MD to support trans youth.

+ “This summer, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, New York City’s first ever LGBT elder public housing project will open.”

+ Kenyan actor, Samantha Mugatsia, star of the banned film Rafiki, was named best actress at the Fespaco Film Festival in Burkina Faso.

+ Speaking of Rafiki, it’s included in this great list of 8 queer films to see.

+ A 52-year-old San Francisco queer bar, The Stud, renewed their lease and announced new programming, including, “XO: A wild monthly dance party that welcomes everyone and “centers women” will be hosted on the first Friday of each month from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.”

+ Here’s Billboard Pride’s queer playlist for March.

+ And finally, Kehlani is radiant and very pregnant in the video for her new song, “Butterfly”

Beloved, I cherish you and everything you bring to the world. I hope these links cheered you up, put some pep in your step, and made you feel like you can take over the world. I’ll see you soon.❤️✨

    • I went for a walk around my neighborhood tonight and the sky was absolutely flaming pinks and oranges and purples all over the place. It was flamboyant, dramatic, completely over the top. I stopped and stared at it several times because that seemed like a better plan than walking and staring and tripping. It did not occur to me at the time that the sky was gay but in retrospect this is the obvious explanation. Now I will be able to see something gay any time I like as long as I have a window or can step outside. Excellent!

    • A mom at my kid’s gymnastics had a christian shirt about taking back the rainbow. I was so confused as to why we couldn’t share.

  1. I would like to humbly submit that the sky is not only gay, but also nonbinary, given the lovely spectrum between day and night. I mean, come on, dusk, twilight, golden hour? Am I right?

  2. I love to see more support groups/alliances for queer and trans youth springing up. I work for an org in Olympia that holds support groups in high schools during lunch time (and offers trainings for school staff) and the need for it is overwhelming. It needs to be everywhere.
