Sunday Funday Celebrates Brandi Carlile’s “The Mother”

Happy Sunday cool cats! How was your week? It was my last week of classes and I finished all my finals and shit, and then yesterday should’ve been Buffy’s birthday, so I got a tattoo, and I took someone to Red Lobster, per Beyoncé’s instructions! Red Lobster was weird as fuck y’all; felt like the Twilight Zone. The tattoo is perfect, and being done with classes is a joy. Hopefully, you had some joy, some weirdness, and some perfection in your week. Oh, and happy Mothers’ Day, if that’s your thing!!

+ A music video for Brandi Carlile’s song “The Mother” from By the Way I Forgive You is out.

+ What would a feminist Game of Thrones finale look like?

+ Ani DiFranco has a memoir coming out, and I think you’d like it.

+ There’s a free exhibit at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston about Stonewall to check out.

Much of what is on view is surprisingly beautiful, even florid: A pink chandelier hangs just inside the door, above a grouping of Anthony Sonnenberg’s other baroque, pastel-colored porcelain sculptures. Flowers stuck into the puppet stage set of “Tragedy Vase,” however, are left to wither intentionally.

Jean-Michel Othoniel’s Yellow Brick Road inspired ceramic installation glitters on the floor, not far away — a subtle reminder that Judy Garland, a gay icon, died two days before the riots erupted outside the Stonewall Inn gay bar in Greenwich Village, after a raid in which many people were arrested simply for being there.

“There’s a bit of menace underneath all the beauty. That’s important,” Daderko says. “It’s much more elegant than I thought it was going to be. This is difficult material for a lot of people so it had to connect and tell stories, whether they’re material or narrative connections.”

+ With regards to lesbian roles, one of the original Mommi icons, Diane Keaton, says “I’m available!”

+ Staceyann Chin’s one-woman show Motherstruck is being adapted into a show for Scary Mommy. Here’s one of her most recent “Living Room Protests” with her perfect daughter Zuri.

+ Jamie Windus is the nonbinary activist working for gender-neutral passports in the UK.

The next steps are to build as much media attention around the campaign as possible, because the government responds better to petitions and campaigns if they know there is a lot of public support behind them. It’s proven very difficult, and even when I get press, it’s been very difficult to angle it in a way where the discussions that I am trying to have are not seen as opinions that are up for contention or debate. My next steps are to try to speak specifically to more supportive MPs and people within Parliament that I can begin to have conversations with about the petition.

+ Google will introduce nonbinary emojis in the next update. I am confused because I just assumed all emojis are nonbinary but sure!

+ She-Ra gets a season three and Geena Davis will be there!!!

+ Anna Jarvis, the founder of Mother’s Day would probably not be very into it.

Okay pals, have a groovy week. If you’ll be at A-Camp, it’s so soon! Even if you won’t, you can get excited because the closer we get to A-Camp, the closer we get to Gemini season baby!!!!!!!! Get ready for the best time of the year! Love you talk to you soon!
