Style Thief: How to Dress Like Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor Who

Friends, it is almost that time of year when I get excited about Doctor Who for one day only! I used to be hooked on the show, and even though I’ve watched a lot less in the recent past, I still love the Christmas special and watch BBC America religiously all day trying to catch up. This year will be no different, except for the fact that everything is different! This year when Peter Capaldi (he’s still the Doctor, right?) dies (or whatever a regenerating Time Lord does) he will regenerate as a beautiful perfect woman!! Jodie Whittaker is taking over and her promo picture is everything y’all. So many nods to past doctors, that’s also this perfect femme/butch (futch, if I may) aesthetic blend that I’m in love with. And maybe you love it too and want to dress up as her at work one day to make you feel good on the inside. I got you, friend.

The Jacket

1. Alice & You Relaxed Cocoon Coat (Size 14-24) $95; 2. Monki Heritage Trench Coat (Size XXS-XL) $103; 3. 14th & Union Cozy Long Cardigan (Size 0X-4X) $39.97; 4. Olivia Sky Knit 2 Pocket Duster Cardigan (Size S-XL) $32.97

According to this Twitter conversation, the jacket is actually lilac/sky blue, so if you’re trying to cosplay, maybe don’t buy these, but these are great jackets to wear period, and they’re very cute/work appropriate if you ever want to secretly bring some joy into your day-to-day life.

The Pants

Teal pants!!! Teal cropped cuffed pants!!! I’m in love with this and think no one should wear pants that are any color but teal from this day forward. Thank you for complying with this new law I just made up.

The Shirt

The new Doctor wears an adorable striped shirt, which is super hard to find anywhere? But I just kept thinking about how perfect of an opportunity this outfit would be to wear any one of Autostraddle’s tees that have something written across the front. I chose Tomboy Femme because it’s grey, but also the Hot Take shirt could work really nicely, too!

The Accessories

I love so much that the costume designer for the new Doctor made her fashionable and functionable. Cute but sturdy boots, warm socks, and suspenders! Suspenders are so smart, my pants are always doing weird things even when I wear a belt! Thanks Jodie Whittaker for leading the 2018 suspender revolution that we all need.

I dare you to look fly in this outfit! Wear it to celebrate a woman Doctor (finally), and the end of a Steven Moffat regime! The future of Doctor Who is lady identified and hopefully gay!

  1. All of this is just perfect. As a person who owns teal pants (and like, teal/turquoise everything else in my closet) I am SO EXCITED to have something in common with the new Doctor!

  2. So excited for Christmas Dr Who. Full from dinner, just after my christmas nap, me and all my family have watched the christmas ep every year since i was 13. And with a new doctor, theres so much to be excited about. Love the outfit, especially the shoes and teal trousers combo. I am so ready for this.

  3. OMG, I knew I could rely on Autostraddle to come up with the perfect fashion post on this look! And the Doctor is canonically bi now, so go us!

  4. The suspenders! To me they are a nod to Captain Jack Harkness, the lovely handsome fella who was into everyone regardless of gender or sex (or species, for that matter!). Is this also a nod to the Doctor’s sexuality now? I certainly hope it was intentional! Also damn, I thought my heart belonged to Ten forever and always (and his “death” was the end of my never miss an episode mantra), but Whittaker may be what gets me back into watching consistently!
