Sneaker Feature III: Kicks On A Mountain

+

Welcome to the A-Camp edition of Autostraddle’s Sneaker Feature series. (How’s that for a fancy ass intro sentence?) Our first SF post was a showcase of budget-friendly but still style-heavy kicks. Part two indulged those who go a step further by collecting and/or customizing. I’ve done my amateur best to also provide quality kicks-related books, movies and tumblrs. (Obvs with the help of other AS staff sneakerheads.) This time the focus is on those reckless A-Campers. Not only did they step with bravery, but they brought their kicks and for that I thank them.

I’m no Robin when it comes to snapping los fotos, so cut me some slack on the quality. However, at camp, I asked the HBICs if we could do a post on your kicks. In the dining hall, Marni announced that I was looking for people to show off their laced-up bests and they all werked it. Also, I’m always game to run around in between workshops/panels/feelings and take pics of queers from the knees down.

I present to you the glory of A-Camp Queers and Their Kicks!

**Note: Some pics were sent to me post-camp. Also, not all of these pictures contain sneakers but that’s mainly because when Haviland poses for you, you take the fucking picture.

  1. either the room is spinning, or that’s just me trying to rub the computer screen too vigorously against my chest right now… I’m too excited, .. boots, kicks, kicks with wings, boots with pretty legs in them.. Sneakers with velcro straps showcasing YOU DO YOU …

WHAT IF I WANT YOU TO DO ME.

      • Lol oh my, I’m glad my gf’s not on Autostraddle, I’d have a lot of ‘esplainin to do!

It was really more of a general shout-out to the whole lot of sexy shoes and legs and faces, etc. in this post. But I am flattered we moved up to ‘friends’ status so quickly! ;) lol

  2. These are all A-MAZING, if anyone else is a fellow enthusiast *cough* crazysneakerlady I put new girls kicks photos up everyday on Instagram @bobbielily I think we need an autostraddle sneaker hashtag to see more!

  3. I bought my first pair of Converse Sneakers 9 years ago. It was the best decision I ever made. Now I don’t wear any other sneakers (well except for when I’m working out).

  4. they are all so rad! :) my fav are Robin’s nº22 and the last ones nº38.
i was hoping to see alex vega’s tight kicks here :)

    • girl, please, i LOVE kicks but refuse to drop more than $100 bucks on a pair (and they better make me weak in the knees and all my bills better be paid). then i will wear that ONE pair of kicks for a year or two or five.

i have a whole system based around sneaker maintenance to keep them looking fresh too.

some of my fave sneakers cost less than $40 bucks. so rock those wal-mart kicks, babygirl.

      • would it be possible to have some sneaker maintenance tips for the next sneaker feature? pretty please? :D

      • Gaby, you just made my day.
I think the most I’ve spent on shoes is $50, and those were from rue 21. I bought them for a costume though, so I felt it was justified.

  5. Also, please let it be noted that both Wild Stallion counselors are represented in this photo set.

  6. perfect timing! I just snagged some brand new John Varvatos Converses for $5 just because they were in my size and the consignment store where I work doesn’t accept sneakers. Waiting for the day when we get Frye boots like the ones in this gallery! Classic.

  7. Sweet shoes, ladies!
I also never knew Original Penguin made shoes, too. My newest pair of glasses I is that brand and now I totally wanna know what else they make.

  8. Flexing on a mountain. Definitely the butchest I’ve ever looked.

These shoes are killing it, though. I don’t know how I didn’t see more of these while I was there!

  9. Let me tell you about my Adidas….
    Now
me and my Adidas do the illest things
we like to stomp out pimps with diamond rings
we slay all suckers who perpetrate
and lay down law from state to state
we travel on gravel, dirt road or street
I wear my Adidas when I rock the beat
on stage front page every show I go
it’s Adidas on my feet high top or low
    My Adidas..
    My Adidas..

  10. Oh This is one of the greatest threads ever.

I bought a pair of Nike Dunks that are the weirdest combination of yellow, red and turquoise, and did some crazy light painting with them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/l_coral/3379805409/

Also customised some other Nikes in red, white and blue with the stars and stripes on the back.

I love a pair of navy Converse, and the Adidas Jeremy Scott with the wings are awesome.

  11. I just ordered new NikeID customized sneaks because I DESTROYED mine walking 50 miles in 2 days in New York this weekend. Avon Walk for Breast Cancer awesomeness. The soles are literally gone. It is all foam.
