Pop Culture Fix: Shane McCutcheon Made Kate Moennig Gay, Too

Welcome back to your weekly Pop Culture Fix, the place where we put all the Kristen Stewart news that wouldn’t fit into No Filter.

+ Shane made Kate Moennig gay too! “Oddly enough, when I got The L Word, that’s where my wheels started turning,” she recently told RuPaul on his podcast. “I grew up Catholic and I went to Catholic school for 13 years so I wasn’t really in an environment to explore [being a lesbian’, especially at that time in the ‘80s and the ‘90s.”

+ Similarly, you fall in love with Gillian Anderson, she falls in love with her characters.

+ At TIFF, Kristen Stewart has finally speaks out about Robert Pattison — she absolutely thinks he’ll make a great Batman.

+ Pennywise loses his queer cred in It 2, apparently.

+ Here’s Evan Rachel Wood hanging out with “the world’s most human robot” (but for real). (Speaking of ERWB, her character in Frozen 2 is apparently not Elsa’s love interest.)

+ ’90s erotic thrillers and the satisfaction of watching women burn the world.

+ Portrait of a Lady on Fire crushed Cannes, is lighting it up at TIFF, and here’s the official U.S. trailer.

+ Jennifer Kent’s Alice + Freda Forever is nearing a deal with Amazon Studios.

+ 😂

+ There is such a delightful surprise for you in this The College Admissions Scandal trailer.

+ The realest interview Trace Lysette has ever done.

+ 😭

+ Yesterday, My Kid Is Gay released a free e-care package for parents and loved ones of trans youth called Breathe, Learn, Act in conjunction with #WorldSuicidePreventionDay. It’s a really cool resource with a playlist personally curated by Laura Jane Grace!

+ Every interview with Rebecca Sugar makes me adore them even more. This one with the AV Club is just perfect.

+ King Princess is ready for the throne.

+ Brandi Carlile and The Highwomen on making the best country album in years (and it’s true, it really is!).

+ With A Black Lady Sketch Show, Black women are no longer just background in sketch comedy. (You truly must watch this show; Amber Riley gets into a threesome in the finale and legitimately says the words, “I was so excited to eat that taco I forgot to ask if you have any boundaries.”)

  1. I was going to call into the To L and Back hotline to mention Mia being in the College Admissions Scandal movie! Happy that you beat me to it — hopefully she gets an Emmy for this.

  2. Oh wow,oh no, I mean after Ben Affleck we now have Robert Pattison playing Batman?
I feel like this would be the perfect moment to go for the sparkling and glitter and gay version of the Dark Knight that we’ve always wanted and deserved.

  3. You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
That the level of lesbian hype could get any higher

Come on “Portrait…” light my fire!

  4. The Highwomen debut album is incandescent! Women singing soul-nourishing harmonies, lyrics that are cheeky, funny, moving, irresistible old school country charm… just gorgeous through and through.
