Pop Culture Fix: Kristen Stewart Refused To Stay in the Closet, Even for a Marvel Movie

Welcome to your weekly Pop Culture Fix!

+ Kristen Stewart is on the cover of Harper Bazar UK this month, and in the profile she told writer Sophie Elmhirst that Hollywood is still homophobic as heck: “I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.’ I don’t want to work with people like that.” (The whole profile is great; you should read it!)

+ Indya Moore joins Draco Malfoy for Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting.

+ Grace and Frankie will be back one more time for a final 16-episode seventh season, officially making it Netflix’s longest-running original series.

+ Apparently Dark Crystal has a lesbian gelfling couple!

+ Looks like Nico won’t be back for the second season of Charmed. :(

+ Jill Soloway and Julianne Moore are teaming up for Mothertrucker.

+ Beanie Feldstein has joined Richard Linklater’s Merrily We Roll Along, which is a 20-year project adapting the Sondheim musical on an IRL timeline???

+ Read this NYT piece on Barbie Ferreira and Hunter Schafer, trust me.

+ The WNBA is putting on some of the best pro basketball in America (also the gayest). (Speaking of which, Sue Bird’s out for the rest of the year with a knee injury.)

+ Holland Taylor has joined Ryan Murphy’s Netflix adaptation of A Chorus Line.

+ This Cara Delevingne cover profile in Elle is pretty great.

+ Noelle Stevenson chatted with Hypable about that most absolutely heartrending recent season of She-Ra.

+ How Lizzo Does That (also she just scored a #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Truth Hurts.”)

  1. I wonder which moron gave Kristen Stewart that advice and if they gave it before or after Marvel hired Tessa Thompson. Because I think it’s clear Marvel doesn’t actually care. I mean, Tessa doesn’t seem to be quite as big on PDA as K-Stew does, but she’s certainly not silent about her sexual preferences and I think has actually been even more outspoken about the sexual preferences of Valkyrie.

  2. Wait didn’t realize Beanie Feldstein is the sister of Jonah Hill, that makes way more sense.

If Grace and Frankie don’t marry each other for the last season, I may have to imagine a final scene where they do. They need to be happy!

  3. Regarding Kristen Stewart, I feel bad that she had to keep her personal life a secret but she seems really happy now that she’s out so good for her. It’s funny because people will say it’s 2019 who cares if you’re gay! But despite the fact that most of Hollywood is liberal they are extremely homophobic. I’m sure there are many more people in Hollywood that are part of the LBGTQ+ community and are closeted and bearding. It’s been this way for decades and sadly I don’t see it changing anytime soon.
