For a short time while I lived in New York City, I went to this super damn fancy gym (like, the dressing rooms had a eucalyptus steam room and Kiehl’s products and free tampons). I got a discount through work, and even though I’d never been a gym-goer, I thought maybe if I belonged to a gym it would inspire me to be less… stationary. I say belonged, but I never really belonged there, mostly because I’m not a person who likes to do structured workouts or work out at all really.

Because this gym was less like a gym gym and more like a spa that happened to have workout equipment in it, I didn’t totally hate it. I learned that I actually like to run (short distances at least) and that I get a delirious amount of satisfaction from elliptical machines (tip: try going BACKWARDS). Anyway, there was this guy I’d see occasionally who was incredibly fit and incredibly energetic and I loved to watch him while I huffed and puffed my way through a mile. Not only did he murder the stairmaster, he would flat-out dance like it was his last day on earth the whole time. I’m talking full-out: air punches, whooping, gyrating hips, all of it. I never got to the point of giving few enough fucks to do the same, but I was dancing on the inside.

This playlist is to inspire us all to be like that guy when we’re working out, and even when we’re not.
